Hi all,

Just picked up a my new deer rifle, from Cabela’s Nanimo.

I am looking for any ammo recipes to try out for 69 to 80 grain rnds if your willing to share.

Thanks Dark.

Hi. Welcome. Please drop by New Members and introduce yourself!

For a .224" bullet to hunt deer I would look at the Hornady 70-gr GMX All-Copper monolithic bullet.

https://www.hornady.com/bullets/rifle/22-cal-224-70-gr-gmx#!/

It has really great ballistic coefficient, and it holds together 100% even if your shot is angled or if your deer are really big or you hit major bone.

Varget or RL-15 would work great. Varget is very temperature IN-sensitive.

If I could not find Hornady GMX then the Barnes TSX or TAC-X 70 gr is also great as a hunting round for deer.

I have a loading of 20.5 grains of AR Comp, under a Barnes 70 gr TSX, with a 2.250 overall length, basically max for a STANAG magazine. My notes showed it shooting 1.5 inch groups at 50 yards, from a 16 inch lightweight barrel, with a red dot sight.

I use either Reloader 15, or AR Comp for my heavy bullets, I did see an improvement in accuracy from my bull barrel when I switched to AR Comp with a 77grain Nosler.
