Question Of The Month (January 2021) (Gun/Ammo Shortages)

Mike, I hear what you say and agree for the most part. The president might have hurt in GA., but as I watched I kept wondering when Loeffler and Perdue were actually going to talk about policy, but they just kept yammering about stopping socialism. This election was decided by people that like socialism or at least like the idea.

I kept hearing pollsters saying the Rs should win, but it could be closer than they expect. Again, they did not take it serious enough. Ossoff took that out of state money, which I'm certain both sides had, and hired 2,000 African Americans to go door to door talking to people.

So, I do agree that Trump could have been a more positive force, but I think the candidates could have helped themselves more than they did.

The media is Americas greatest threat. They report what thay want with the slant they want there is minimal accuracy or truth in what they "report".

It is sad that so many just absorb their source of choice without question.

I no longer listen to much to any main stream media source. I follow podcasts, blogs, etc of people that i feel are critical of both the left snd right.

One tactic of destroying a society is ti create dustrust in everything . We seem to be heading there at an astonishing rate.

Another is to break down all social/gender roles. Once again we are racing to the finish line.

Either by chance or design we are devolving at an increasing rate. Social media is a key factor in that. Big Tech and the media have to much control over what we perceive is happening in the world. This is not going to change in the next 2 years, or more.

GA was key as the right has no ringers for the midterms. I hate to say it but Trump hurt the GA candidates more than he helped. His insistence that he was the winner prevented them from running as the last line of defense against a Biden presidency which probably would have pulled more conservatives to the polls.
^^^^ This is dead on. @MikeD I struggle sometimes to capsulize what I see in concise and brief terms, you've done it really well.

The economy will tank big time if Biden gets the helm. Folks will find crime on the rise. Suddenly “solving” COVID will be too late, by the time the pressure comes off.

Hypothetical quandary:

A man has two sons. Over the years one of the sons will occasionally buy a gun, then buy ammo to practice with. Over the years he accumulated several handguns, a couple of shotguns, and a couple of rifles. He also always has a decent stock of water and canned goods. He also is prepared to survive away from home if necessary.

The other son over the years always talked about buying a gun, but never did. He does have the biggest chrome wheels he can get on his vehicle, and always the latest phone and latest, greatest flat screen tv. He has been this way his whole life and is 45 years old. So finally about three months ago he bought his first handgun. He bought a Glock 9mm. About the Ame time I gave him a 20 ga shotgun and 5 boxes of ammo, mostly #4 shot, and a couple of snap caps. This his first shotgun and he has yet to fire it. He did go out one day with his brother to shoot the Glock. He had 4 boxes of ammo and shot 165 rounds. He said he loved it. Yesterday I talked to him, he had shot up the rest of the ammo he had. Later in the day he bought another Glock, has two now.

So here is the deal, he now has a shotgun and some ammo, but has never loaded or fired it, and two 9mm pistols that he can't find ammo for. Last night he sent me a picture of the new pistol. I asked him about ammo and he said "you have plenty so I'm not worried". Now mind you, I have had many conversations about this very subject over the years. Last night I had to tell him just because you have a couple of boxes doesn't mean you have to go shoot them and have no reserve or means to replenish, and no, I do not have plenty that it can be wasted. His family probably does not have enough food and water at home to last three days. They eat out very often.

So there ya have it, what do you tell your mid 40s kid that refuses to prepare ?

I am curious how others feel ?

Meanstreak, these are the folks who, if anything bad happens, will show up on your doorstep with their hand out and assume you will take them in, feed them and take care of all they needs.

They never prepare, never offer help, nor contribute to the good of the family. They assume the best.

Unfortuantly, to many younger folks fall into this category today. Growing up, most of us learned life lessons. You want something you work for it. Always remember my first vehicle. Not only did I have to earn the money to buy it, but I had to pay for all the recurring expenses and learn how to fix it's problems. Today most are given a new vehicle and use a credit card (which many don't pay) to buy whatever they want.

Old friend of mine has a standing rule. Don't show up at my house unless your invited!

And he doesn't have many visitors!

Time to teach the boy some lessons of life before it's to late, even at his age.

My two cents.

Regards

I'm sorry for your loss... :( (jk ;) )

Tell the under-prepared son to ask his brother to SELL him some ammo. Or YOU could as well... Going rate for 9mm around here is about $200/200rds if you can find it.

I have alternate shooting devices so we can practice in the backyard without a trip to the range. My dot's b-friend is a good kid and they have been together over a year, maybe two. I want to take him shooting (and I'm sure dot will come also) because he has never gone. At prevailing ammo pricing, it will be a $200-$300 day but will be worth it...

Family dynamics are a strange thing.

I’m a guy just north of 45 and a bit shy of umm, er 50. I’m the most prepared of anyone in my family...period. We have several weeks worth of food and water and necessary survival supplies. And the ability to get more provided we can bug out at some point. Ammo, not an issue.

My older brother has one rifle I’m aware of and likely has a 3 day supply of food and water but I’m being kind, due to him being a fire dept captain...he should know better.

My older sister and her fam...not a chance. Likely to be casualties early on...ugly truth.

I’ve prepped enough to look after my family and my elderly father and then some.

EDIT: Our daughter is still with us and carries an emergency pack in her car. Prepped by Dad. Lol. Once she leaves on her own...it’s up to her. We can’t live her life for her.

I could be mistaken, but I think we are seeing the tip of the iceberg. I believe this particular ammo and firearm shortage is going to last a very long time. Take care. Tom Worthington

Tom, unfortunately I think you are spot on. I see no way the ammo supply is going to catch up for a long time. I did an inventory just this past Sunday and believe me I was surprised at what I did not have.

Prohibition of Alcoholic Beverages in the United States lasted from 1920 til 1933.

Fast foward 100 plus years and were likely to see cases of alcohol being replaced by cases of ammo in the near future!

Capitalism continues despite socialism!
