Good morning

Good Morning, Mossies!

Meanie, I read One Second After about 10 years ago. It is a fascinating book with a premise that really interested me intellectually.
The question is "what happens when an electromagnetic pulse detonated over is a technology-dependent society?"

I won't give much away but there were two story lines [of many] that caught my attention.
1) What happens to certain person dependent on the constant supply of meds?
2) The importance of having some useful survival skills. What happens to a PhD who has no skills beyond her schooling? She has to trade her...
Never mind. Get the book!

I finished the book yesterday. I loaned it to a friend of mine yesterday afternoon. She sent a text to me about 30 minutes ago, she can return the book later today. She reads fast, lol. Personally, I really found the book thought provoking.

On another note, we are experiencing sleet, freezing drizzle, and snow in our part of the world this morning. It looks like the next 24 hours will be a wintry mix.

You all have a great day.

Good morning Mossberg Owners.

I used to read a lot of fiction. I’m just too old now. There’s no time for that anymore.

We had a little more rain last night and a bit more is predicted today. This is good news. It has been way too dry this winter in the San Joaquin.

The cost of farming is definitely going to be higher this year. Electricity cost are up and everyone will have to pump irrigation water.

Good morning. Wow, and overnight the world is even more unhinged.

I hope Putin is not leading the world to WWIII. His actions and threats remind me of Saddam Hussein. The difference being of course is the means to back up the rhetoric. Then we can't lose sight of the China question either.

Anyways, I hope you all have a great day, and God bless Ukraine.

I heard a commentator this morning say that he didn't think Russia had a large enough armed forces to take Ukraine...out loud I said "I begga pardon?". How do these numb-nuts "experts" get on the news anyway? Too many people listening to nonsense on social media and their heads up their nether regions I guess. Were any of you surprised Putin walked in to Ukraine? My gosh he's only been skulking about taking pot shots, hassling and threatening for 8 years.

I’m hoping Ukraine kicks azz on the Rooskies. Then NATO makes a deal to keep things peaceful.

Ditto here. I am not very optimistic though. I may be naive, but the missles took me by surprise. Tanks, fighters, artillery, along with infantry did not surprise me, actually I expected as much. There was a report a few minutes ago the Russian strategic bombers were airborne, presumably their target is Kiev. It's like Putin is using a ten pound sledge to drive a ten penny nail.

Quite frankly his threats to the western world I find disturbing as well. A taunt to the west. He seems to be not only determined to take Ukraine but very erratic as well.

This might get much worse.

Expert, a guy from out of town with a briefcase.
LOL! Too true Meanie!

I'm also very concerned. I don't think for one minute that Putin's threats are empty. In fact, I think he means every word of it. If you look at the man's career before politics and now the last 25 years he has been building up to this point for a long time. The worst thing we could do is underestimate his resolve and his ambition. He isn't lying when he talks of security, it just isn't the version he wants us to believe. He is solely interested in the security of Russia and his legacy and if that means aggressing, subjugating or otherwise coercing other countries into submission to achieve that goal, he will.

I'm pretty good with my history (not as good as some of course and I'm not educated in it either) but my own observations led me to draw parallels between today (recent history) and the late 1930's. The political landscape today is not that different than it was then, just different countries and different leaders playing different roles. We have a large cross-section of western society that is enamored with neo-fascist and some pretty hardline socialist ideologies. Not in a dogmatic sense, but they subscribe to the parts they like and think they can chuck the rest. What they don't realize is they don't work without hurting people in some way or another. You get the Bernie's and the Justin's mainly falling into this camp.

Then if you'll entertain me for a minute, in a WWII perspective you've got Russia in the role of Germany and China in the role of Japan. What would seal the deal is for Putin to roll through Ukraine like Hitler did Poland and just keep on going while everyone sits on their hands. Then China sees an opportunity and annexes Taiwan. The wild card is the crazy kid in NK....will he be somewhat ineffectual like Mussolini (makes life miserable for his people - didn't contribute much to Germany's successes) or does he unleash unholy hell on South Korea?

There is potential for a WWIII scenario and I'm pretty sure it will take only a spark in the wrong direction. The really scary part is looking at the numbers...Russia, China & NK have massive militaries of debatable potency. However, in today's context they make their WWII counterparts look like nothing more than schoolyard bullies.

Sorry guys I know this isn’t a laughing matter.

I feel really bad for the Ukrainians right now. Also for the poor Russian citizens, because I don’t think they want to fund this war or be responsible for its moral atrocities.

Right now assholes all around the world (like truedoh) are wiping the sweat off their brow and thinking, “Wow! thank God for this distraction! “

Took the words right out of my mouth Cadd!

After Putin took Crimea I expected everybody to sit down and work out some kind of an arrangement beneficial to the Russians and the Ukrainians. It’s clear now that was never gonna be on the table. We would’ve had to foster that deal.

I remember in the 50’s when the idea of another war became unthinkable, because it would certainly be nuclear. Einstein told us that he didn’t know what weapons would be used in World War 3, but that World War 4 would be fought with sticks and rocks.

Then everybody figured out that it didn’t have to be nuclear, and they could all still start lots of little expensive wars.

Good morning everyone.

Zelensky, staying to fight for his country against extreme odds.

Trudeau, leaves town rather than sit down and talk with truck drivers.

Have a great day. Remember how fortunate we are.

Zelenski is president because he was basically the Donald Trump of the Ukraine. He was not a politician, but he ran against corrupt politicians and won.

I think he’s going to be OK because the people support him, regardless of what Russian does in the end.

Good [?] Morning, Mossies.

My short take on the Putin invasion.
I would not be surprised is Putin is suffering from some severe health trauma. His reasoning seems could be explained by some sort of severe health threat that may be causing some sort of fatalistic attitude that is promoting "go out with a bang" thoughts.

Scoop, I have a good indication that this is correct. People in Russia are trying to tell us similar things, without actually saying it out loud in public.

Biden wanted to take Trump out behind the gym and punch his lights out.

I want to send Biden and Putin into a boxing ring and let them duke it out. Tell them “the winner takes all.”

Then after they’ve both beat each other senseless, send them both to the hospital and stop the stupid war.

I think that this could be a pay-per-view match and it would be the highest rated fight in all history.

And we could actually see this happen if the people that run the world and the media had the same bright idea.

Naaahhhh . . . . They have to keep Up appearances.

Vladimir would wipe the floor with Biden though, not sure I wanna bet on that matchup.

I've come to exactly the same conclusion, and this is why it's important that Russia is put in check. Of another interesting note is the similar military situation in the EU vs. that time, in the 30s Europe was unwilling to get involved in armed conflict until it was too late and by that point their allies had all been steamrolled by the Blitzkrieg.

The difference is that today there's no strong ally across the pond anymore to step in and save the day.

If this is true Scoop...heaven help us cuz Putin would have nothing to lose and a legacy to gain (in his mind). Not to mention, perceived revenge for the failures of the Soviet Union and all the Iron Curtain countries of the Cold War era.

I don't think you can ever separate the fact that Putin was a Soviet KGB officer planted in the East Germany Stasi. You don't get there by being a good guy. You get there by being an obedient but brutally effective tool. If the Stasi were anything, they were cunning and brutal. That exactly describes Putin.
