Ended up with a 500 with a ported barrel, choke and rifle sights, not what I ws looking for, but what I found at a LGS. Looking for a rifled choke now. Barrel is longer than I wanted but not clearing the house either. Just the wife and I so we will set still and push 911. Loaded with two .620...

Is there any classes out there that teach how to use the shotgun in survival if SHTF. In 1968-1975 I learned to like the shotgun for close in work even with less rounds loaded. If not for a shotgun I wouldn't be here today. But I do like a rifle with 20-100 rounds for over 75 yards or more.

I use either a Mossberg 500A or a older Remington 870 to hunt with. I leave the gun loaded in a corner by my headboard. The load is two .620" round balls which is deadly on deer or hogs. Now the question: If I should grab the gun, shoots someone (with the reload deer/hog rounds) who breaks...

I have seen a aluminum ladder fall through an outside wall on new construction home, going all the way through the wall into the inside. New houses and apartments are not made like the old ones. My house was was built in 1975 and I would bet that buck shot would not go through an outside wall...

I live in Indiana and see houses being built with plastic siding, 1" hard foam sheets on the out side wall. Walls are both 16" and 24" 2x4's on center with 4" batting type insolation and 1/2" sheetrock. Houses must be 8' from the line so are 16' apart. You would be real surprised what #8 bird...

I am looking at buying a 12 ga Mossberg stamped 500 on the receiver. My Mossberg is stamped 500a on the receiver. What is the difference? I have not physically see the 500 stamped gun just 2 pictures. It has a 20" barrel with a 7 round mag tube. My gun has a 28" vent robbed accu choke...

Can my barrel be cut down and rethearded for chokes? If cut down to 18.5" to 20", any idea what the barrel choke would be? Would it be hard to add a rifle type sight on it?

New tube ordered from Midway

Serial number: L168XXX. It has light colored wood stocks, barrel has screw in chock and a vent rib. I now have to go to Harbor freight for a heat gun. Where is a good place to buy a new 7 round mag tube and a 20" barrel either heavy or standard. Do they make a 20" with a screw in choke? I...

I just picked up a 500a for $175 but the mag tube looks like someone took a hammer to it. Is the mag tube replaceable? If it is, can I replace it, or does a gunsmith need to replace it? Can I use a 7 round or will it have to be a 5 round? I think Buba was working on it.

Still trying to find one around Indianapolis at a fair price. Don't want to buy at almost double the MSRP off the auctions. The LGS I buy a lot of my things from will not even take an order as he just can't get any in. He said it had been over 9 months since he had a new Mossberg Shotgun.

I wish to thank everyone who has posted. I have learned much from this thread. It sounds like I can't go wrong with any of the pump guns. I will watch the LGS and adds. I missed a 835 yesterday by an hour for $200 a older guy had put on the local fourm.

That looks better than the 590A1, will look it up. Next question what is an 835? looked at the fourm here but don't really know. I seen it can do 3 1/2" shells but as long as the other barrels fit would that be a better gun to buy?
