Mossberg SSi-1 Rifle

Don't Have an Extra of Either one of those to Fit the SSi-1.
Just the 24in. .223 Varmint Barrel it came with.
Anything Else you'd Consider in Trade?

what do you have
what do you have

I have 2 Weaver Steel Tube, El Paso, TX, Scopes 4 Sale.
One is a K4-60 4 Power.
The Other is a 3-9X40 Sportsman.
Both are 1 inch w/ Fine Crosshair Reticles.
I am Asking $60 OBO Each or $100 for Both, Shipped to Lower 48.
Both have Clear Glass & Intact Reticles. All Adjustments Work.
Have been Very Reliable Scopes on my .30-30 Marlin.
Either Would be a Nice Scope for an Older Model Mossberg.

Will Post Pics in the Next Day or so.

Mounted & Bore Sighted the New Weaver Kaspa 3-12X50 on the SSi-1 Yesterday.
Ordered 500+rds of Brass, 200 Bullets & a Mold while I was Out of Town.
I've Got 2lbs of H-4198 & 1/2 Lb of Bl-C2 on Hand & about 100 Small Rifle Primers.
Now I'll Have to Set Up the Dies & Reload some Ammo. Need More Primers Too.

Took her to the range Today & got her Zeroed @ 100yds w/ the New Scope.
Really Like the Scope. But the Trigger Definitely Needs Work.
Super Hard Pull. About 5-7lbs is My Guess. Gotta Fix that.
Other than that She Seems Real Accurate w/ Handloads & So So w/ Factory FMJ.
Shot 4 Loads Today. 40rds total. All in New Hornady Brass.
1st Load was w/ 20gr H-4198. 10rds Dogtown 55gr JHPFB & 10rds Speer 55gr TNT.
2nd Load - 26gr BL-C2 & 10rds Ea Bullet. Also tried 5rds w/ 4gr Trail Boss behind the Dogtowns.
Factory was American Eagle Black Box 55gr FMJ.
1st load was Approx 2980fps & 2nd Approx 3000fps.
She Definitely Liked the Speer TNT's the Best. But Both Powders Shot to the Same POA.
Group @ 25yds Sighting in was Excellent <1/2in or Better.
Due to the Stout Trigger & A Stiff Quartering Headwind, Groups @ 100yds were 1.5-2in at Best.
Also got 4 FTF/Duds w/ the Factory Ammo. Never Had this Happen w/ Federals before.
Really Need to Work on the Trigger. Like to get it Down to 2lbs or so.
Anyone Have Access to Disassembly Instructions for this Gun?
May Have to Contact Mossberg & See If I Can Get Any Info from them.
Well that about Sums up my First Range Report.

Just Tried to Contact Mossberg about Disassembly Instructions & They Redirected me to Havlin.
So, I Sent them an e-mail Requesting Instructions to take this thing Apart.
Meanwhile I'll Have to Put Her on the Bench & Have a Look & See what I can Figure out on my own.
Once I get Her Apart, Then I Can Fix that Trigger.
Wish me Luck,

Just got a Reply from Havlin & they have No Idea about How to Disassemble the SSi-1.
Guess I'll just have to put'er in the Gun Vise & Start Takin it Apart.
Has to Be Done... Gotta Get that Trigger Down to 2.5-3.5lbs.

Figured Out How to Disassemble Her Today:
DISSASSEMBLY
1) Remove Forend Stock & Barrel as per Owners Manual (1- Allen Screw)
2) Remove Recoil Pad (2- #2 Phillips Screws)
3) Remove Stock Bolt w/ Long Flathead Screw Driver.
4) Slide Butt Stock Off of Rear of Receiver.
5) Drive Dovetailed Receiver Block Out of Upper & Lower Tangs (L. to R.)
6) Drive Upper Tang Pin Out of Receiver (L. to R.) to Release Upper Tang.
7) Lift Safety Shroud Off Pivot Pins on Lower Receiver to Remove w/ Upper Tang.
8) Remove Small CirClip from Hammer Pivot Pin & Remove Hammer & Spring.
Be Careful Not to Bend or Lose the CirClip (It is Very Small)
9) Remove Small CirClip from Trigger Pivot Pin & Remove Trigger & Sear.
10) Remove Sear Spring from Small Hole in Lower Tang.

To Lighten Trigger Perform the Following Steps:

1) Cut 1-2 Coils From Front Sear Spring (Under Hammer) ONLY
2) Polish Sides of Hammer, Sear & Trigger at Pivot Pin Locations w/ Fine India Stone.
(Fine Diamond Sharpening Stone Works Too)
3) Polish Pivot Pins w/ India Stone.
SKIP TO STEP 5 IF You Are Not Experienced in Performing Trigger & Sear Polishing.
4) Polish Sear & Hammer Contact Surfaces with Out Changing Angle of Engagement Surfaces.
(Do Not Attempt this if You Are Not Confident that You Can Do This Correctly)
5) Clean All Surfaces, Very Lightly Oil & Reassemble in Reverse Order.

If You just Want to Clean & Lube the Action, All you have to Do is Remove the Butt Stock.
Hope this Helps Anyone w/ an SSi-1.

Trigger Is a Lot Better Now. Still Not as Light as I Would Like though.
Gonna Take it Apart Again & Try a Couple More Lil' Tricks to Lighten it up a bit.
I'll Let Ya know how it Goes when I Figure it out.

Thinkin' about Drilling & Tapping the Trigger thru the Trigger Spring Hole & Making it Adjustable.
This Will Take Out the Creep & May Lighten up the Trigger Pull by Removing Slack from Sear Movement.
Really a Psuedo Trigger Spring as It is Mounted In the Top Front of the Trigger & Acts on the Sear.
Gonna Try a Small Pin Cut from a Small Finish Nail in the Trigger Spring Hole First.
This Way I Can easily File it to Proper Length to Test Out My Idea.
If this Works, Then D & T for an Adjustment Screw Will Work even Better
Wish Me Luck,
UncleSarge58

Got Her Apart today & Took another Look at How to Lighten the Trigger Again.
My Last Idea about Removing the Trigger Spring will NOT Work.
Took a Closer Look & Found that the Purpose of that Spring is
to Return the Trigger Forward to Ensure that the Safety Re-Engages.
D&T the Trigger for an Adjustment Screw May Still be Viable
(To Take out some of the Creep Inherent to This Design)
I Did Stone the Sear a Little More & Got the Pull Wt. Down Some More.
Bottom Line: Stone All Pivot & Contact Points on the Hammer, Sear & Trigger
Cut 1-2 Coils Off the Sear Engagement Spring.
Slowly Stone the Sear Engagement Surface on the Tip of the Sear a Little at a Time.
Secret Is to Do a Little at a Time, Reassemble & Test.
Repeat Only Until the Trigger Pull is Noticeably Lighter & Smoother.
Take Off Too Much & you'll Have to Replace the Sear (Good Luck Finding One)
As it Is Now, The Trigger Is Noticeably Lighter & Smoother.
I'll have to Measure the Pull Wt. with my Trigger Pull Gage Later today.
So, For Now at Least She's Far More Shootable.

I recently picked up a a Mossberg SSi heavy barrel single shot in .223. I picked it up at an auction. It came with the Bi-pod and the Osprey 3-9 scope. The scope has a 1" tube, and it's exceptionally bright and sharp. I hope it performs well on this rifle.
It looks to be a solid shooter, but I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I'm hoping it was a reasonable purchase. I got it for around $400, including the scope. The Osprey scopes are hit and miss for quality and durability. I hope this is one of the good one's they produced. I haven't taken the time to zero it yet. That's when I'll know if it's a good product or not.

Welcome to the forum from NY and congrats on your new Mossy.:)

Great lookin' rifle sir!!!

Keep us posted on how she shoots.

I'd like to add that they made a heavy-barrel 22-250 also. I picked one up last Christmas with a decent (but older) scope for $350. It's a good shooter. I'm confident that it would shoot one ragged hole with handloads.
