I'm putting together a knife for a B4K auction on another site. Here's a bit of a walk through
Antler handle, brass for the finger guard and the blade.
Antler driller, knife tang cut and scored to give the epoxy something to grab onto and the rough cut finger guard.
Rough fitting after the guard has been shaped to match the handle and the blade fitted. I wrap the edge in tape to protect it and my hands during the process. I use a drill press and a drum sanding bit for all of my fitting and polishing. Hand sanding after assembly to remove any small edges and then back to the drill press for a final polishing of the brass.
Glued up and braced for it to set. I usually clamp it in some type of vise but had to improvise due to the shape of the handle. It does not require a lot of weight, just enough to keep everything together and squared up.
My initials on the back, I put that on each one I make.
The seep hole is no longer visible, it was filled with a mixture of antler dust and super glue.
The lettering is not as pronounced after final leather treatment but it is there if you look close. I soak the leather in bee's wax. It protects it as well as give it more rigidity. It does soften a bit over time. :-D
