Sharpen the swedge/false edge?

Hey y'all,
I have a Ka-Bar USN MKI, and I was wondering what y'all thought about sharpening the swedge or flase edge or whatever it's called. Do y'all think it'd ruin the integrity of the blade? It's not the sturdiest of knives, the tang is kinda weak.
Should I or shouldn't I?

I sharpen them on my ka-bar, and Ontario combat knives. And my bayonets. I figure, if it looks like an edge, it should cut like an edge.

I think it'd make some jobs easier. Cleaning fish, etc.

Some of mine are, some aren't..my 1944 guard marked Ka-Bars aren't...
