Who would have seen this coming? I am absolutely volunteering to support this. Retirement just became a little more rewarding.

HB 2550 and SB 2609, sponsored by Rep. Dawn White (R-37) and Sen. Delores Gresham (R-26), respectively, requires the state Board of Education to develop standards for a firearm education course to be offered as an elective for high school students.

Text of HOUSE BILL 2550
By White D
AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49, Chapter 6, relative to firearms education.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49, Chapter 6, Part 10, is amended by adding the following language as a new section: The state board of education shall develop academic standards for a comprehensive firearm education course to be offered as an elective in high school. The course shall incorporate history, mathematics, and science related to firearms and firearm safety education as recommended by law enforcement agencies and firearms associations. The course of instruction shall not permit the use or presence of live ammunition.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it, and shall apply to the 2019-2020 school year and all school years thereafter.

I estimate the probability that this bill will become law in the next 8 years at about 20%, but it is fun to dream.

Yeah, we have to fight to even have an archery team.

And we're about as backwoods as it gets.
