Pre written letter to oppose red flag and gun bans

I don't like any law that ignores basic, fundamental rights.

Anything where just anyone can have you swatted and you have basically no due process and can't even face your accuser in court, gets an easy pass from me. Nothing bipartisan about it. That's just Nazi brown shirt shit there.

I signed, thanks.

This is such a third rail issue that I think the president is hedging now, because he's betting on a different path to success.

I don't think he can lose, even if he supports the AWB, because the opposition candidate will be a tax-grabbing radical minority socialist.
We did that one already and saw the results.

I think he is betting that Dems and Rinos will allow cazy gun laws to be passed so they can get re-elected.
In the meantime he may well get to appoint another Justice who will help SCOTUS overturn it all.

Then he will beam like the sun as he delivers a hat trick. The economy, gun rights, immigration control.

AND, if the man can foster peace in Israel and Gaza etc, his place in history is golden.

I know the letter above was for Trump, but here is a reply that I got back from mcconnell. Yes, another canned "form letter".
-------------------------------------------

Thank you for contacting me. Our country is mourning the senseless acts of violence in El Paso and Dayton. My prayers remain with the victims of this terrible violence, their families and friends, and the brave first responders who charged into harm’s way.

Following these horrific shootings, President Trump called on Congress to work in a bipartisan manner to help prevent future acts of violence. I have asked several Senate Committees to work on bipartisan solutions to help protect our communities and preserve our constitutional rights. It was serious, bipartisan work that led to last year’s successful passage of the Fix NICS Act and the STOP School Violence Act.

The Fix NICS Act requires the records of people prohibited from owning a gun to be entered into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) to make sure the system is more accurate, while also protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners. This legislation also allows people whose names are incorrectly in the database to appeal to get their names out of the system. The STOP School Violence Act provides federal funding for school safety programs and evidence-based technology and equipment to improve school security to help prevent school violence. Only through serious, bipartisan, bicameral efforts will we be able to continue this important work and produce further legislation that can pass the Senate, pass the House, and earn the President’s signature. Partisan theatrics and campaign-trail rhetoric will only take us farther away from the progress Kentuckians and all Americans deserve.

I remain fully committed to working with my colleagues in the U.S. Senate to continue to put forth policies that will help make our communities safer and protect our constitutional rights. I will be sure to keep your thoughts and concerns in mind throughout that process.

I'll say this...John is right. There isn't any way you can spin red flag laws into something less than what they are. You can talk all you like about talking about it and dissecting it and varying scenarios that might be appropriate...it will ALWAYS be used improperly somewhere by someone and that is a GUARANTEE.

Any law that allows law enforcement into your home, to confiscate your property or to arrest you without having committed an offense (or sufficient evidence that an offense has occurred) are simply the acts of a police state. We are borderline on that up here already...you do not want to go there.

I feel terrible for the families of these horrific, criminal acts. Words cannot express the sadness. However, further impinging on the rights of society will not solve this problem of wanton murder and mayhem. You must ask yourself, what prevents me or why don't I feel the need to go and kill indiscriminately? When you recognize your own value system within and realize that reckless, senseless murder sickens you...you'll have your answer and you'll also have a sense of what an increasing number of people in this world are lacking.

There are no laws for that. Well, at least not ones that many people are willing to accept anymore and I think the results are telling. But, that's a topic for another thread.

I don't think Trump will sign any of this.

What the new congressional proposals ask for is complete nazi-ism.

From the FPC:

  • Heller Repeal
  • Gun Licensing
  • Gun Rationing
  • Gun Registration
  • "Assault Weapons" Ban
  • Universal Background Checks
  • Age Ban on Gun Ownership
  • Annual Fee for Gun Ownership
  • Mandatory Gun Buy-Back Program
  • Requirement of personal references to obtain a gun permit
  • And even creating programs to "encourage voluntary civilian reduction of handguns and other firearms."

What the new congressional proposals ask for is complete nazi-ism.

From the FPC:

In Canada:
  • Heller Repeal
  • Gun Licensing - Got it
  • Gun Rationing - Not yet
  • Gun Registration - Yup all handguns & some semi auto rifles
  • "Assault Weapons" Ban - Banned since the 1930’s
  • Universal Background Checks - Got it
  • Age Ban on Gun Ownership - Got it
  • Annual Fee for Gun Ownership - Got it - 5yr license renewal fee
  • Mandatory Gun Buy-Back Program - Not yet
  • Requirement of personal references to obtain a gun permit - You betcha
  • And even creating programs to "encourage voluntary civilian reduction of handguns and other firearms." - Oh yeah, seem to have those running somewhere in the country all the time.

Do you see a trend here???

I was able to get a response from Rand Paul concerning red flag laws. Here it is. I am omitting the personal info and phone number.
---------------

Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns with red flag gun laws. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on this issue.

At my swearing-in as a United States Senator, I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution - the entire Constitution. I take that responsibility very seriously, and I am proud to be a strong supporter of the Second Amendment in accordance with that oath.

I do not support any gun control proposals at the federal level that would further limit the right to gun ownership by responsible, law-abiding citizens. Instead of reducing crime, laws and regulations that infringe upon the Second Amendment often have the opposite effect of unduly burdening those who respect the law; they do not deter individuals with criminal intentions. As we've seen in many jurisdictions with strict firearms controls, those who follow the law may be left without the means to adequately protect themselves and their families from violence.

If you would like to discuss your concerns with red flag gun laws in more detail, or if you have any questions on this or any other issues, please feel free to call my Washington, DC office at . You can also connect with me at www.paul.senate.gov, my Facebook and Twitter pages, and my YouTube channel, where you can also see my latest activities and most up-to-date commentary on current issues.

Again, thank you for contacting me. It is an honor and privilege to represent the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the United States Senate, and I hope you will continue to share your views with me.

In fairness, it probably is a form letter.

But, I have been in contact with his office several times this year and have gotten familiar with a few of his staff, so I do have contact info to his state office.
