Re: Tritium replacement for 3 Dot sights?

Those are awesome! I love em, did you get em from Trijicon?

Re: Tritium replacement for 3 Dot sights?

Thanks for the link! I dont have need of them, but I like em alot!

The only thing I personally have to have with a full length rail on the bottom of a forend is some sort of grip or cover.

Re: Tritium replacement for 3 Dot sights?

I've been thinking about putting one of the Meprolight or Trijicon screw-in tritium sights on my 590A1. It only has a front bead at this time. If I were to put the night sight on the front, does anyone know of a 2 dot night sight that would go on the top of the receiver in on of the pre-tapped holes?

Re: Tritium replacement for 3 Dot sights?

I have the Meprolight, but I dont know of anything receiver mounted that would work with it. I think the sight plane would be whacked and you may be shooting real high, you would really need some sort of pedestal front sight.

I've been lookin through some stuff, like AIMPRO and XS Sight Systems... I'm not really finding anything without adding something like a banded sight from XS, or having a pedestal soldered on. AIMPRO has a really sweet lookin low profile receiver rail with ghost ring, but it works with a front blade sight. You could have the a rail soldered to the front too from AIMPRO if you wanna spend the $$$, but I dont get the impression you are really wanting that much more than the bead.

Is your 590 a 5 shot model? I apologize I dont remember... If so, you could get an 835 VR barrel and use a 3 dot fiber optic or tritium set that mounts to the rib.

Best place to pose the question would be in the "Optics" section and see if anyone has any ideas.

Re: Tritium replacement for 3 Dot sights?

^^ Noted and thanks. I'll probably just stick with the night sight replacement for the bead. Mine is a 5 shot.

If something for the receiver area doesn't exist, there's certainly room for invention. :) What I was thinking about, is something like a rear night sight for a pistol, very low, with the notch and tritium dots all but touching the receiver, mounted with one of the screws. That would keep the sight plain correct, and save the trouble of the other assorted options new barrel, etc.

As my username might suggest i have a 590 mariner and i have been looking into new sights and dead ends for the most part. I was looking originally for some ghost ring sights but in order to install them correctly according to the local gunsmith it would ruin my nickel finish to put them on. Does anyone have any experience with changing out the front bead to a truglo front sight type??

Just make sure that you get something with a 5-40 thread. Rossignol changed out his factory front bead to a Meprolight tritium bead and he posted a review about halfway down the first page of this thread...

Shotgun Bead Sights

Thanks for the plug LES!!!

Sights can be pretty easy to change out, though as you encountered some things have to be silver soldered and it does ruin finish.

You mention TruGlo, they have a fiber optic that simply clip on the end of the barrel and uses the front bead to hold it center. It doesnt even involve removingyour factory sight at all.

Like LES mentioned, I have the Meprolight Tritium. I like it alot and any info you would want on it is included in that thread, including te only real issue anyone ever has with sights like this! But the fix is in there too! ;)

Let us know if we can be of further help!

thanks for the help guys, anything i can do to preserve the nickel finish while still achieving a decent night time sight picture i will do.

 Yeah it is kinda like that! In fact, NiteSite had just recently said something like, who needs porn with so many guns to look at! :D

Theres really soooo much we can do here with the 590's! We're somewhat limited simply by the configuration... but it can be overcome! ;)

Wow, join this site and get my answer right away. Just bought a Mossberg 590a1 and the stock is too long. Read the posts and found the 13" Hogue Overmolded stock. I'm 5'4" and this should be perfect. Gonna order it from Aimpro.
Thanks so much!!!
