Another 500A added to my collection

This is the second of two guns that were recently given to me. She is much easier to look at than the other one.....

Re: Another 500A added to my collection

LOL that's what she said!!.... no really that's what my wife said. I asked her if she wanted to help my polish it. ha ha she walked into that one :D

on a serious note, and you all know that I'm new to shotguns and not a hunter (yet). I'm pretty sure this is a "bird gun" but why is there a small brass bead a ways back from the end of the barrel and a larger plastic one on the end?

i believe its about fitting the gun to the shooter. to do with LOP for proper sighting.
once you are properly fitted, you line up the beads to show same position. this make sense??

Re: Another 500A added to my collection

whats the difference between a regular 500 and a 500a?

nice gun wood furniture looks old school

Re: Another 500A added to my collection

500A is 12 gauge, 500B is 16 gauge, 500C is 20 gauge, 500E is .410

I think they all fall under the 500 line

Re: Another 500A added to my collection

I spend a lot of time at the range slappin paper with my pistols and have always wanted to crack some clay. Would this 500 do the trick? I need to hook up with the clay shooters and just dive into it. When I was younger I got discouraged real quick with pheasant hunting with my step father and his brothers. By the time I got on target the birds were already falling. I gave up on that real quick but if I can drop a few pucks maybe I'd find some interest in bird hunting again.

My receiver just says model 500 with the little registered logo. No A, it is 12 ga though. I have seen other Mossies marked 500A that were 12 as well.

500 slugster

i got a used 500 with the ported slug barell and a design on the side of the reciver for xmas and i was wondering what the first year of production for this combo was. it has an aimtech mount on it with a bushnell banner 3x9by40 on it wich covers the serial #. gun is in good shape great gift from my sister and brother in law. thanks for any help you can offer. :)

Re: 500 slugster

Welcome aboard!

Can you post a pic of the receiver design? Also if you can remove the Aimtech mount, Mossberg should be able to use the serial number to give you an accurate "born-on" date...
