151M Forend stock

Pheasantman

Copper BB
Got an old 151M that was my granddads. The barrel shows some rust spots and it's missing the for end stock and the metal u shaped piece to connect to the main stock. I don't think the guns value is very high, but it has sentimental value to me and I would like to get it back to original looks. Any ideas where to find these two pieces and does anyone know where to find the serial number? Gun still shoots good. A good cleaning will help it a lot. Thanks

That's nice to hear you are going to restore your grandads Mossy.
Some older rifles and guns didn't have serial numbers.
As far as finding parts, call Havlin (636) 937-6401,they are the pros when it comes to older Mossys.

Keep us posted on your project. :)

Thanks Old Mossy. I know the value of the gun is not real high and am debating whether or not to have it reblued to get the rust off the barrel. If I do reblue and can find a forend stock then I'm sure I will refinish the stock. Is the bluing process a major task or need to be done by a pro? Any comments anyone.

Congratulations on the gun. But I am sorry for your familes loss.

There are a couple of different methods for bluing.

There is hot bluing (which is what most factories use), which will likely require sending the barreled action (or barrel) to a gunsmith. I am unsure if the receiver is steel and can be blued (if the receiver is aluminum, you can't blue it)

And there is cold bluing, which is very common and popular with the do it yourself crowd like me.

I like the Birchwood casey brand of cold blue paste, but they have changed their recipe slightly the last tube of gel that I bought, but it still turned out decent.

And here is a slightly different technique and video of oxphoblue, which is sold by brownells.

Hello everyone, I'm new here and I just saw this ad about the Mossberg m style rifle. I am in the same place as this gentleman only my grandfathers rifle was the earlier model 42Mc same look only clip fed. I want to tell you the pure joy I'm having in restoring this rifle and want to incourage you to never give up on finding parts. Every time I find something for my rifle I get a new memory of my grandfather. I'm blown away with the people I have met and have become close friends with. These " Mossberg People " who have helped me in my searching for various parts. I have seen on eBay,very recently the part for between the stocks. It is there right now! And the forward stock part these days is normally sold by it self when a complete stock is sold. Here's a question for the experts. Are the forward portions of a model 42m and this gentlemen stocks interchangeable? It would appear to me that all M style forward sections from the metal attaching part to the forward wood looks interchangeable to me.good luck in your search for parts. Hopefully your journey will be as good as mine. And when it's all said and done you wil be left with a great rifle!

Hello Hommer. Welcome to the forum from NY. Glad to see you are restoring your grandfathers rifle.

I don't have an answer to you question. Have you tried calling Havlin (636) 937-6401. They are the best with older Mossy's.
