338 win mag stock?

I just bought a new laminated 338 win mag 4x4. I got it home and as I always do with a new gun I began to clean it up checking everything out ,that's when I noticed some clear epoxy in the area of the stock where the recoil lug sits. I was just wondering is this normal?

I think that epoxy is put there on purpose to give that area extra strength.

that is mossberg's attempt at glass bedding the recoil lug.
