Now that I have my CCW permit I'm carrying a S&W .38 Mod 32-1 Terrier.

My question,,,,is there any other cartridge I can use besides the .38 S&W cartridge?

I've heard there is something made by Buffalo Bore, has anyone tried these?

Thank you in advance.

I've used Buffalo Bore .357 in 180gr and love them. I bought the .45 colt deer grenades and hate then. They are too hot and I cant extract the brass. Thay caused a scope failure as well.

If your gun can handle the +p rounds I would use them.

asked a friend who is a s&w revolver nut. he said you can only shoot .38 s&w rounds.
he said little terriers are nice guns.
i certainly would be wary of shooting heavy loads in that older gun though.

Just so others viewing know, a .38 S&W caliber gun like the Terrier is NOT compatible with .38 Special ammo, let alone .357 Mag. I think that is an "I" frame gun that pre-dates the "J" frame guns which were built to handle the "new" .357 cartridge.

Is this about what you're talking about? (Not all that great identifying all the various wheelgun models).

My wife inherited this after the passing of her father.

If you're asking if 38 S&W is the same as 38 special, the answer is no.

38 S&W is often called 38 short. 38 Special has a longer case and cylinder and 357 mag is shown on the far right in that order.

my friend further elaborated;

"the gun is strong enough but you really have to accept the limitations
of the cartridge. it was the standard british military cartridge for quit
some time and there is a known 200 grain bullet load that works quite
well. if i owned it and was carrying it i would work up the british load
as hot as the gun could stand with some fairly fast burning powders to
keep the pressure curve down."

so with this i would check further if interested in carrying.

Checking into it further,,,,mine is a s&w .38 mod 32-1.. It's about a 1969-70 early J frame.

I ordered some 38 s&w 146 grain lead round nose.

Thank you guys for all the help.

I've got an Enfield No.2 revolver which I use Magtech .38 S&W LRN in.

Not sure if they'd be much use in a CCW, as I only use mine at the range. They've been very reliable and quite consistent in performance though.
