did anyone here used something like this?

I'm being told that this was wild boar hunting ammo (Italian made) few decades ago before it was "outlawed", followed by "P8" (9 balls around 8mm+), I believe that's "#00" Buck in US?
Now, with SLUG being only legal shotgun ammo for hunting wild boar...

P.S. I'm trying to get some in shootable condition from the man I got this one, to test them on paper target

In case you are wondering why it was cut open...

I have never before seen that. It looks interesting.

It also looks like it would be a very poor hunting load for an animal with a tough hide and lots of muscle. I cannot imagine really soft lead and wire deeply penetrating to vital organs.

Thank You for a really interesting set of photographs!!!

Check local laws, I think bolo rounds are illegal in some places, at least for hunting.

Interesting but I would think it would pattern inconsistently.

really cool for history and conversation, really bad for penetration......dragging that wire through a body isn't easy.

I've never used many exotics. With that said, I think the idea behind the concept is to keep the shotgun pattern tight(er) at longer range. And is not needed at a distance that I would typically engage a target with a shotgun.

Especially since slugs have developed and are accurate enough out to past 100 yards, and they have more weight and velocity when they hit something to penetrate very well.

I have used a shot combination similar to what you show (without the wire) called "buck and ball".

It was a very popular shot combination in the U.S. during late 1800's during the civil war that used buckshot and a larger slug (or more commonly called a pumpkin ball during that time frame).

Here is some video testing of some exotic shells and a description here.

Interesting, and as said probably intended to keep the shot tight. Likely not very accurate tho or penetrate well. Around here, large cal handguns, rifles, and slugs are used.

Actually it was only effective for what it was designed for, canon fire.

Canon balls bounce along taking people out as it goes. Two canon balls linked with a chain take out more people on a battle field than two individual canon balls ......talking way more mass than anything hand held so it works.

The other thing they used them for was naval warfare . The shot was very effective at taking out an enemy vessels mast. Greatly enhanced chance of a hit and it acted like a Bolo, wrapping around the mast and breaking it off

Someone applied it to shotguns and the myth started

I'm guessing that cooper wire would either snap or jank itself out of lead ball than going through something... My guess is as GunnyGene's, that wires are for keeping patter tighter...

Now that I can see for a distance shot maybe but considering the drag, distance and all that technical crap...cool collector piece though

I wish you were my history teacher way back when. I would have been too interested to nod off or get bored. :D

Or would get slapped across the forehead with a chalk board eraser if you had LOL

(I've actually seen that happen).

I had a Geometry teacher that would slap the side of his file cabinet with a yardstick when he saw people nodding off. I will blame that for hearing loss.

I college I had a instructor that would just let them sleep then make fun of them with the rest of the class because they "must be genius to sleep in my class". Damn I can still hear his voice saying that in my head. He was a little Chinese guy that was a probably one of the smartest profs I ever had.

Grade school principal was a WWII vet who lost his leg in the war. Had a wooden leg that he bounced his paddle on while he listened to your plead, if he liked it then he would let you go with being scared .If he didn't he would swat your ass to match your offense , if you tried to rig the swats or do anything to make it more comfortable you would earn swats with extra vigor.

A friend got sent there one day it was the principals birthday, my friend came back to the outside of the class and was eating birthday cake at us through the window. The teacher brought him in and asked if he had enough for everyone, he said no so the teacher threw it in the trash and swatted his ass lol

Nope...never used or looked into this sort of thing...ever !!

That exotic round video is hilarious .....they show you how bad they suck then in the same sentence say "exotic rounds are many times more damaging than conventional".....the flachets are the best , might draw blood through soft BA, but by the time they make it through they don't even have the energy to drag the " fetching" through some nylon ......thanks for the chucle, poor cops in 1985 were so misinformed

Some guy in my country told he has some of this ammo, and that he will send it to me for testing purposes...
When the package arived, I expected some old paper shells from family reserve, but got brand new box 10pcs. in plastic shells.
then I learned he actualy has hunting store on the coast, and they are still available to buy because some people made custom order and he imported them form Italy...
still has some left in store with price 9kn per shell (at today's skyrocketed dollar currency that's around $1,28 per shell)
can't wait better weather to try them on the range..
