Fair warning from Miami-Dade Police Benevolent Association

Proposed cuts in the local Miami-Dade County budget that could lead to the firing of hundreds of law enforcement officers have led one police association spokesman to issue a stark warning to local citizens: Better buy some guns.

John Rivera, the president of the Miami-Dade Police Benevolent Association, bluntly told residents to “get yourself some firearms” after Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced his budget proposal for the upcoming year, a local Fox affiliate reported.

The proposal would lead to nearly 650 government job cuts in order to bridge a $64 million shortfall, and the mayor said police might feel the biggest pinch if its labor union doesn’t make concessions.

I guess presidents of Police Benevolent Associations can get away (politically) with saying that. Actual police chiefs seem much less likely to do so. Elected sheriffs have no problem with it, though.

BTW, we know that those citizens shouldn't wait for budget cuts to arm themselves. Cops can't travel at 1,000 feet per second, try as they might. Take care. Tom Worthington

Sounds like a load of political posturing to me, just using the situation to sway public opinion against the mayor.

Too bad the people are the ones that always end up paying the price for all of their bull$#!+...

Anyone who expects the police to take care of them are sheep and/or cowards.

Anyone who waits for budget cuts to justify buying a gun for self preservation and protection of your family are sheep.

There is a natural selection in life. The weakest get eaten first. Remember that.
