Got Wood?

okay rip here are the pictures. i used a product called hoodbleach. it is a 2 part bleaching system. it is way better than oxalic acid at bleaching out the wood. but it is also a lot harsher on the wood.

i didn't take pictures of the actual process of bleaching the wood because i didn't want the chemicals getting on my phone so here is the final product.

i'll let the wood dry out for a few days and then rub a light finish on just to pop the grain. i'll post the final pictures sometime next week

This is the post. But theres no pix...rats...

Wouldn't solvents, oils, or thinners swell the wood?

A little bit, but the solvents flash off and and it dries back down.
You can't apply too much at once, because you don't want things to warp. You want to do surface applications and then get it off.

Anyhow, you going to raise the grain slightly, put a sealer coat on it, and then sand it with 220 before you put the first coats of paint on it.

You can use a damp rag to raise the grain, but the solvent will do it too.
