I shoot bead sights almost exclusively. You can check out the link to my YouTube channel in my sig to see some video at all kinds of ranges, and with several different loads, primarily 00 buck 9 pellet both low recoil and full power. We will sometimes use clays for targets, but not at 25 to 30 yards with 00 buck.
If your practicing for HD, I wouldnt think you need to go out that far. Many HD loads or personal defense loads arent designed for much range beyond 15 yards, the pattern opens up too much to be very effective, you loose the density of the pattern for reliable stopping power and with that wide open pattern, its difficult to be clear where the pellets are being placed.
My recommendation is to put up some paper, or piece of cardboard or something about 30" around maybe. It doesnt have to be that big really, but you can divide it up for different ranges if it is. Anyhow, put a bullseye on it, (or two) and set up at about 10 to 15 yards. Put the bead on the bullseye and pay attention to your recoil anticipation and how you flinch, thats all part of it. But fire and see where the pattern goes compared to the bullseye. Your specific gun may fire a little high or low, left or right, it wouldnt be uncommon at all. This will give you an idea of how you need to hold on a target. Try the different rounds you plan to keep for HD.
If you need a load to handle greater ranges, I highly recommend the Federal FliteControl low recoil. Its a rather precise load and i have been able to put it on paper at 50 yards, WITH A BEAD SIGHT!
As for sights, I totally agree with Toby, "Mud". Practice with what you have and get to know your gun first. If down the road you need something else, get it.
Remember, (I've been told something like this before when I asked the same questions!
) Gadgetry wont make you a better shooter, nor is it a surogate for practice!
Keep shootin my friend, it will all fall in place!
