I received my red/green dot today/sighting in?

I just got this today.
Holographic Reflex Laser Red Green Dot Sight Scope

I just got my715T. I have the carry handle model. I plan on using the stock sights to get dialed in first. I mounted the sight and tried to line the red/green dot with the front sight and ran out of adjustment. Am I missing something? Is it possible to line up the dot with the sight or is it too high being on top of the handle.
First time red dot user so any/all help is appreciated.

I've been waiting to get a red dot for my wife's until I can figure out just how bad that carry handle will effect it. I've read it can be done- everything from sawing off the handle, to a side rail and turn the rifle sideways to shoot- even that they have 45 degree angle adaptors, put it on the side rail, then only turn the rifle 45 degrees. I just need to talk to my g'smith I guess.
 
Not going to be cutting off the carry handle. I like the aesthetics of it. What are you people with red/green dot sights doing for sighting?
 
I'm pretty sure I have found my solution.

You can get different height spacers to lift it higher on the rail if you want it mounted further forward as well.
 
After I ordered the gooseneck rail I realized I wouldn't be able to use the orignal sights. While waiting I started to shim up the rear of the picatinny rail under the red dot. I used a cut up casino players card, hey it's Vegas, and I think I got the POA close. At least it seems to be co-witnessed to the front sight. I think I'm going to make a more permanent shim that uses the mounting hole to locate it. I figure a block of plastic and the dremel should get the job done. I will sight it in after I get my order of 500 .22LR.
