Lot's of posts about "center mass", etc. But that doesn't always compute for new shooters. So thought I'd offer up some specifics:

The human body is mostly a vertical target (unless other than standing up). Which means you should concentrate more on getting your aim/point centered from left to right, rather than top to bottom. Here's what I mean: Point between the lines, and it will be a kill or incapacitating shot most times. Don't worry about vertical. You've got about 5" side to side and nearly 2 feet vertically.

That's a good illustration. If you shoot and get one lung, but no other vitals, there is a very good chance that your attacker will still be able to fight. Centered like your target is the whole if the central nervous system, the bulk of the circulatory systems largest blood vessels, and the pelvic girdle, which a hit there will break down the largest bone structure in the body, making it difficult if not impossible to stand.

Thanks, but it's pretty simplistic. I left unsaid a couple things, because in real life a person presenting a full frontal target is some what rare and it can get far more complicated than I wanted to get into. The other thing is that this should give a new shooter some idea as to how he should not present him (or her) self in a fire fight. :)

Very same concept in martial arts particularly percussive (striking) arts. Centerline is where the opponent is most vulnerable.

Yep. Basic anatomy ought to be a prerequisite for any kind of combat. Unfortunately, it's often totally overlooked in typical civilian SD classes (particularly in those states that require training for a CCW), in both offensive and defensive opportunities.

It's kind of like the plumber who, when asked by a homeowner why he charged $50 to tap a pipe, replied: "Because I know where to tap the pipe." :D
