Maverick 88 Home Defense

I just purchased a Maverick 18.5" 12 guage.

On first disassembly/cleaning I noticed hole for front sight bead is drilled all they way through thickness of barrel.

Can see and feel bottom of bead from inside the barrel.

Is this normal?

My 500 Persuader is the same way. I use an aftermarket sight and have to make sure it isn't run all the way down.

It's a good shooting gun nevertheless.

What aftermarket sight on your Persuader?
I would like a fiber optic on front.

I use the Meprolight tritium shotgun bead for Mossberg. I think it's a 5/40 thread but its usually carried by Brownells and Midway or Optics Planet.
