Congrats on your "new to you" Mossy.
Can you take a better pic of the entire gun?

Re: brand new /old model 500 please identify

Is that saftey commom to all model 500's of that era or specific to certain models?

Re: brand new /old model 500 please identify

The condition is very good for being 40+ years old sitting on the shelf and being handled by countless people. The wood on the pump rubs the receiver a little bit i think I'll give it a little trim. There is a flaw on the grip near the bottom right side looks like somebody at the factory got a little carried away with a sander.

Re: brand new /old model 500 please identify

Nice old Mossberg. That's the old style safety all metal.

Question,,,,in pic #2 what are those white specks on the receiver?

Re: Came a long way.

Mine was under $200 back in the early, umm, er, I can't remember when I bought it. Two barrels. Picked up a muzzleloader barrel and slug barrel later...the slug barrel was almost as much as what the gun originally cost.

Re: Came a long way.

Got my 500A at Lyod's stores in Middletown,NY for $189. in 1988. Box of 25 #5 remington shells to go with it $8.95.

Re: Came a long way.

Middletown, huh? Across the river from where I grew up. Sister lived there when her ex was stationed at Stewart Air Field...small world.

Re: Came a long way.

We had a place in Ottisville, outside Middeltown.
Different world up there now.

Re: Came a long way.

Yeah it is. Left in '77 to see the world. Changed a bit every time I went back.

Re: Came a long way.

What a cool ad! I know the exchange rate would be different then and now, but it is weird seeing barrels for $20 or the whole gun for $73. Boy, how times have changed. It's hard to believe the 500 is as old as it is. With all the accessories you can get for it, you'd never really guess the 500 is 52 years old if you didn't know the history behind it. Why mess with perfection, eh?
