Today me and a buddy put 175 rounds down range with my Mossberg Onyx Reserve Series O/U 12g Sporting without a hiccup. I am looking into replacing the buttpad as it was pretty tough on the shoulder using the typical walmart loads.

Well - I did it again, i bought an unfired Silver Reserve O/U Feild off a classified posting - it is on route to my FFL as we speak. I paid in the low 3s for it. I have the SR Sporting already and a Winchester 101 lightweight. I figured for that price I would put it away for my son. This is one made after the firing pin problems.

Thanks, I have not shot the new one yet but I have shot many rounds through my Silver Reserve Sporting with no problems.
Great guns for the money. Too bad it got a bad rap. It seems like everyone like to pile on and bring up the firing pin problems of the past. BTW I love the look of your Onyx - you really captured the beauty of the gun!

Dan you should do a serious ammo test with your gun to see if it is the wally world ammo.
I have shot everything that they carry, Remington, Winchester and Federal in the value packs and have NEVER had a failure to fire with any of it in my 1100 or 500's or even in my wifes BT-99 or her Beretta 686.

Yea I have to try some other rounds through it but it may end up needing to go back to Mossberg. It will FTF once every 200-500 rounds but usually when I am getting the gun real hot. Most days I will shoot 200-500 shots in a morning and I tend to get one to FTF by the end of it.

FTF in a hot gun should not be an ammo problem.
Do the FTF shells show strikes from the firing pins?
Are the strikes as deep as the strikes on shells that fired?
I only ask because I want one of these, but I will not buy one until they are reliable.
I cant have a gun that does not go boom everytime I pull the trigger.
A friend of mine owned a used Stoeger for one day. I saw his frustration when he never knew when the gun would fire and when it would not.
After one renge trip, on his way home he sold it to a LGS for a cosiderable loss.
