muzzle brake removal...

hey guys. i bought a model 817 in .17hmr about a year ago. gun works great, accuracy is not a problem. however, one of my buddies has a savage .17hmr and it has a pretty good supersonic crack to it when it fires but mine is way louder because of that muzzle brake. i know that the barrel is free floated and you can't just go stick the stock in a vice and use a pair of vise grips and wd40 to wrench on it. i would also like to avoid scratching the paint up. im sure it voids the warranty by removing it but recoil is definitely not an issue and i could care less how "cool" the gun looks so can someone instruct me on how to remove it because of the excess noise?

thanks in advance
