my "new to me" 50cal ammo can

Congratz! :D I got a New (to me and manufactured) 50cal from my Fiance as an early Christmas Gift :)
Ammo cans are the greatest! Store anything and everything that will fit in one!!

I must also say, +1 too getting a Mossberg sticker for it ;)

Nice.....
Need to order mine here too, for my can.
In the middle of refurbishing the can to make it look a little nicer.
I'll post pics of my restoration (sort of) and before and after shots.
Sanding is a pain staking process but worth it.
The big transformation is near.

Oh I would be interested in seeing some restoration pics!
What is the original finish made out of? There are a few chips taken out of mine and it seems like a really thick enamel, almost plastic like

its some kind of thick enamel or something.
mine just has spray paint all over, so im removing that.
the enamel seems to stay in tact although i have hit bare metal on a few spots.
im trying to save the stenciling where i can, but its tricky, so we will see.
bought some olive rustolium to re-finish the color.

also made a BIG discovery when removing the spray paint as to what size ammo can it is.
someone here was right on and the rest were ALL wrong, even me.....
post pics of it tomorrow, but just got one side done so far, taking longer to dry than i thought.

Good News on your discovery ;)

I wonder if you can buy the enamel or something similar too get a real good original restoration for it. As for the stenciling, Walmart and various Hardware stores sell the same thing the Military uses. You could use that Rustoleum in Black to get the matte look too the letters

ok guys, sorry for the delay in the post update but i got caught up in the hollidays and work (yuk)

so i solved the mystery can size as i was sanding the paint to refurbish the can, i know the anticipation is killing you all

and YES, the AMMO mod was mistaken
i know, i was shocked to at what i found.

after some sanding off of the paint......

thanks bro, since i had to sand the spray paint over the stencil, it didnt come out as i like, tried to save it, but in order to blend it in i had to spray over it, but the stencil was not dark enough to stand out after sanding and lightly painting over it, so i just had to paint over it because it was too light to see......
got some more stenciles on the can that im taking a different approach on and i am pretty sure i will be able to save those.
post more progess as i get to it.... :)

I just thought that was worth repeating.

All jokes aside, you did good on the prep work and paint.

Nice John!

Just for clarification, aren't 40mm and 20mm ammo cans the same dimensions?

...just felt like throwing another log on the fire...
