What do I have?

Hello new guy here looking for some info. I recently bought a 500c S/N 061411 which I think dates to 1997. It appears to be walnut furniture and the receiver is engraved on both sides the same. The barrel and receiver is blued not parkerized and has a gray/brown recoil pad. It just does not look like a field model to me. Was special limited production guns made at times. Thanks in advance for any info you have.

Mossberg has more model numbers with small variations than you can shake a stick at.

500C would denote 20 gauge.

The barrel will be blued. The receiver, in all likelihood will be anodized. And aluminum.

I do not ever recall a steel receiver 500. Even the older models. To my knowledge, they are all aluminum and aluminum will not "blue".
