What to do first cleaning or lubing wise with a brand new gun?

new guns come with some oil on them....so, what is the best procedure to
follow before shooting the new gun the very first time....can you wipe the oil
off? apply new oil as a protectant?

Sometimes they have too much gun grease too. Factory lube needs to come off IMHO.

There's much better stuff available & anyhow, a new gun has been sitting around by the time I get it. They're always a bit stiff and slightly gritty.

Sometimes I find metal chips and such too. Check it all out well.

I like to lube a new gun with light oil and play with the action a while, wipe it down, blow it all out, then put lube oil on it, play with it some more, wipe it down, blow it out, patch it, and then load it.

Well now I use a bore snake for cleaning, but at least one patch through a new gun and usually 3.

I've been putting the WD 40 Anti-Corrosion oil on all my stuff since I read the test reports here, but anyhow when you take off the factory lube you have to oil it.
