Yemen - Op. Decisive Storm

Story on CNN from Reuters. Looks like Saudi is fixing to invade Yemen. I wonder if Iran will ramp up to counter it. Yemen is very important strategically, and whoever owns it can control shipping thru the Red Sea and therefore the Suez Canal. And yes, the US is involved. Providing logistical and intel support and weapons.

Sanaa, Yemen (CNN)Oversized military trucks painted in desert beige hauled tanks in the same camouflage color down a dark highway late Saturday past glowing billboards in the Saudi Arabian town of Jazan.

With the border with Yemen little more than 20 miles away, the trucks captured on a video distributed by the news agency Reuters also carried a message: Suggestions of a ground incursion into Yemen, which is in the throws of a Houthi rebel uprising, may be more than just talk.

Saudi Arabia and Egypt have both spoken about the possibility of putting boots on the ground before. And on Saturday, Yemeni Foreign Minister Riyadh Yaseen said he expected coalition troops to be in Yemen within days.

Saudi leaders have said that if troops do go in, they won't leave until they have degraded the Houthis' ability to do battle, CNN's Ian Lee reported. The Houthis are apt guerrillas. A fight on the ground could prove bloody and lengthy.

Great. Wonder how that's gonna go. Iranian leaders chant death to America, as recently as two weeks ago and with the US providing air support and other assets to Saudi Arabia, this conflict puts Iran as an enemy, yet they're being supported indirectly by the US in Iraq.

All the lines are blurred and our administration seems to be trying to play all sides so as not to be anyone's enemy which I'm pretty sure is going to make some enemies. You simply can't appease everyone.

Russia has some involvement too if I understand correctly.

I feel we're all going to be sucked under.

Yep.

I cannot help but to think about:

A bunch of the Arab countries have decided to put together a joint army. That ought to be fun to watch.

Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt) (AFP) - Arab leaders agreed on Sunday to form a joint military force after a summit dominated by a Saudi-led offensive on Shiite rebels in Yemen and the threat from Islamist extremism.

Arab representatives will meet over the next month to study the creation of the force and present their findings to defence ministers within four months, according to the resolution adopted by the leaders.

"Assuming the great responsibility imposed by the great challenges facing our Arab nation and threatening its capabilities, the Arab leaders had decided to agree on the principle of a joint Arab military force," Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi told the summit in the resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Israel has joined the Arabs in bombing Yemen. Quite a free for all going on over there. :confused:o_O

Israel’s fighter jets have taken part in the Thursday Saudi-led airstrikes on Yemen, sources in Sanaa disclosed on Friday.

“This is for the first time that the Zionists are conducting a joint operation in coalition with Arabs,” Secretary General of Yemen’s Al-Haq Political Party Hassan Zayd wrote on his facebook page.

He noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had issued direct orders for the Israeli air force to send fighter jets to the Saudi-led air raid on Yemen.

Saudi Arabia launched airstrikes against Yemen and killed, at least, 25 civilians early Thursday, one day after the US-backed Yemeni president fled the country.

Also, 15 more people were killed and injured in a second round of massive attacks by the Saudi Arabian fighter jets in the Northwestern Yemeni city of Sa’ada on Friday.

Yemen’s al-Massira TV reported that the Saudi air force targeted the Yemeni’s civilians who were shopping in a market.

Five Persian Gulf States — Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait — backed by the US have declared war on Yemen in a joint statement issued earlier Thursday.

US President Barack Obama authorized the provision of logistical and intelligence support to the military operations, National Security Council Spokesperson Bernadette Meehan said late Wednesday night.

She added that while US forces were not taking direct military action in Yemen, Washington was establishing a Joint Planning Cell with Saudi Arabia to coordinate US military and intelligence support.

Riyadh claimed that it has bombed the positions of the Ansarullah fighters and launched attacks against the Sana’a airport and the Dulaimi airbase.

I knew the Israelis couldn't wait to join the fray...

Quite the historic event...

Yep. Great training for them, and also some good intel about potential future enemy tactics and capabilities. :)
Yes, but more importantly an understanding for when they send their fighters to take out Iran's nuclear program. It is going to happen (based on inept government's handling of the "negotiations)...the only question is when. By helping SA and the rest of the Arab community they hope to have the same's backing when it comes time to take out Tehran. May be the best move ever made by Netanyahu.
