Howdy Y'all, hope everyone enjoyed the Holiday season and is having a great start to the New Year. Pictures for this post will be included at the bottom!
I may have mentioned something similar to this in a different post, but wanted to bring it back up to see if anyone has shared the same experiences or concerns as us. In the 590S, you'll find several differences , some more obvious than others. Of the most important is what we call the "Cartridge Arrestor", which is the small rubber block that fixes to the front of the trigger assembly and prevents the 1 3/4" loads from flipping and positions them for the lifter. The attachment point of this however, is much to weak for our standards.
The issues started while out doing some shooting. Basically a 1 3/4" shell flipped inside of the receiver and actually lodged itself on top of the arrestor. Not a huge deal (though disappointing), but when the arrestor popped out of the trigger while trying to remove the shell we knew that was a huge potential issue. Back in the shop we found that at best it would only take 2-3 lbs. of force to be pushed out. Something with such a crucial function in how the firearm cycles deserves a lot more robust mechanism than a 2.5 mm wide soft plastic dovetail.
Has anyone else experienced this or a similar issue? I will note that we have never had this pop out while shooting, but we have only ran ~100 shells thru our brand new 590S before we experienced this. After this experience, we made a modification to our Universal Cartridge Adapter to fit better into the 590S and have been using it ever since. This has provided us with a much more robust mechanism, and if you are familiar with our adapter, you know it's in there until you don't want it to be. We do have a brand new 590S we picked up to do some more testing with, I'll be sure to post the updates.
