Attributes of a Tactical Shotgun

I know over the years we have discussed many models of tactical shotguns and everyone has their model of choice.

What I'd like to propose for this new thread is a discussion of the attributes of a tactical shotgun.

Not a focus on model x vice model y. But what do you think are the most important attributes for a tactical shotgun, maybe if you designed one from scratch, and I'm sure there will be some minute nuances we need to focus on for example home defense vice tactical defense applications.

Anyone interested? What say you?

To me an important attribute is maneuverability. A shorter barrel for home defense is essential in my book.

Also if I had it to do over, I'd save up and get a semi-auto tactical shotgun. Pumps are reliable, but as an old geezer I'd like the ability to get several shots off - even home invasions normally have several bad guys involved.

Discounting either a Short Barreled Shotgun (SBS) or a Any Other Weapon (AOW) the driving force on maneuverability is staying with the overall 26 and 18 inch restrictions. However, for me an important attribute having the maximum adjustment for Length of Pull (LOP). To me the minimum LOP should be just long enough to stay within the overall 26 inch limit. Plus easy to tuck the butt stock under your arm in a home defense or CQB situation.

Length for SBR/SBS is measured with the stock at full extension and no muzzle device. With an adjustable stock like on ARs, you can have a length under 26" with the stock collapsed and not be classed as an SBR/SBS.

Interesting discussion Ernst.
There are many attributes in my mind that a tactical shotgun should have. Assuming that all are well built and reliable. A few of the nuances off the top of my head are:
No chokes straight up cylinder.
Great sights.
As short as possible while still legal.
A bayonet is pretty assume.
A good sling system.
A good light
A hard rubber butt plate for taking someone out.
At least 6 rounds preferably 8.
As light as possible.
Good purchase on the fore end and the hand grip.

I think I’m describing my 590A1!
