Federal Copper Plated Buckshot

Just saw this new 12 gauge offering from Federal. The nine copper-plated 00 FX2 buckshot pellets are specially engineered to split into two equal-size pieces on impact. This creates up to 18 wound channels, improves the transfer of energy from the payload to the target, and minimizes the potential for over-penetration, reducing the risk to bystanders.
Interesting concept but the price!!!!!!

On a good hit, should work well.

On something behind cover, or partially behind, would reduce its' effectiveness. No differently than a 223 bullet likely beginning to fragment before it actually reaches what you're trying to hit. Lots of reports on the shortcomings of 223 out of the sandbox under situations as I mentioned.

Somewhere I saw a ballistics gel test of the split buckshot. The penetration was not nearly as deep as 00 buck, more like smaller #2 buckshot which it effectively is by weight.

Just another gimmick. This is getting like the fishing lure business.
