Good morning

This is a fairly comprehensive article on the background of the HTS rebel forces that just took huge portions of Syria in lightning speed. Will be interesting to see how this plays out over time. The article contains a map which shows how many factions are still in play within Syria. Will also be interesting to see both the Trump administration's and Putin's views on continued involvement in the region.

Trump just released the following statement. Last sentence certainly states his position.

"Opposition fighters in Syria, in an unprecedented move, have totally taken over numerous cities, in a highly coordinated offensive, and are now on the outskirts of Damascus, obviously preparing to make a very big move toward taking out Assad. Russia, because they are so tied up in Ukraine, and with the loss there of over 600,000 soldiers, seems incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years. This is where former President Obama refused to honor his commitment of protecting the RED LINE IN THE SAND, and all hell broke out, with Russia stepping in. But now they are, like possibly Assad himself, being forced out, and it may actually be the best thing that can happen to them. There was never much of a benefit in Syria for Russia, other than to make Obama look really stupid. In any event, Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED!"

Is this CIA at work or are they Russian-backed this time? ISIS 2.0 is likely a good analogy
The rebel forces who took over are primarily supported by Turkey. The U.S., which still has about a thousand troop in Syria, has been support in the Kurds.

Think the big question in the near term is the continuation of the Russian strategic naval port at Tatous.

Several other regional countries, including Greece and Israel, have praised the downfall of Assad.

I Took Trump’s advice, and won’t even think about our involvement.

Today I got my new gas tank support fitted.

It is now stripped, sanded, and ready to weld in place.

Then I made a couple 1/8” frame gussets that notch in under the new crossmember, right where the frame kinks in on each side.

I prepped the floor and crossmembers for more sheet metal welding.

I’ll get all that stuff welded in place tomorrow.

I got these little gussets welded on today,

I think that tank of “bad gas” was actually wet gas.

The new gas worked crappy, then ok, then crappy, then ok.

I laid our all the gas hose to slope downhill, then purged the hose 15 seconds. Problem solved

I would have done more, but today was Christmas tree shopping day. I got a lovely tree but the trunk was 1” too thin to bolt into my stand.

I ended up making 5 little “shoes” for the clamping bolts from scrap tubing.

Problem solved.

Today is tree decorating day, so my wife will be very happy.

Not so happy today are Canadians, faced with another (immediate!) ban of 325 different guns.

Some of it is hokum, like banning guns nobody owns, but mostly it is real.

We are in Tule Fog season, and these delays leave me unable to paint before it gets too damp. I may end up heating and spot-painting things to forestall the ongoing rust.

But I have 2 more gussets to fit, and more sheetmetal welding, plus the fuel tank perch, first.

We will see what happens today. So far it is not even 60, but the fog is lifting.

I was calling these gussets because they also connect to the crossmember, but they are really splice plates, where the bottom cord of the tubing has been severed and then welded.

Anyhow I made two more today and got them welded in.

The welding went pretty well considering, but I was careful to purge my hoses so that I didn’t have any water. When it is cold I can see moisture condense on the outside of my flow meter after a few minutes of welding.

On the Canadian gun ban, a Canadian member of a rimfire form that I belong to says that a lot of this is just ongoing bluster -except that their government has spent $100m Canadian on the gun confiscation plans, but as yet have not confiscated a single firearm. Rather like the US with a lot of things - money spent but unaccounted for.

I got most of the floor welding done now. I also got the fuel tank support welded on.

I need to roll the chassis to finish up a few more pan welds. Also I still have a few welds to repair.

Good morning Mossberg Owners.

Lots of nice weather this week, so I am out every day, grinding and welding and preparing to paint.

Last week we had rain then lots of this.

That’s the westering moon, just at sunup, showing the Tule Fog arising.

Today should be about 58 and partly overcast until noon. No fog!

You just can’t paint in the fog.
