Got hosed by my insurance company when I went to the ER when I threw out my back late last year. My primary or a specialist couldn't see me and I was in a lot of pain. Was told to go to the ER if I was in a lot of pain so I did.

Got a bill for $2K from the hospital saying my insurance was denied. Insurance letter came a day later said my ER visit wasn't covered cause I had other options (which I didn't) to see other doctors. I appealed... same denial even with my PT notes showing I was 30% disabled at that time.

So I was forced to make some decisions. So I sold my Mossberg MVP and my Shuffs Mini G locally and made up the money for the bill.

Shit happens and I'm not too distraught about it. Still sucks though.

This week got hit with another bill. My daughter (ended up with viral pneumonia) and wife got really ill with the flu. With doctor visits (multiple) and meds it all racked up to a little under $400.

So basically my builds are on hold until probably the end of the year. Sucks was hoping to have the AR-9 up and running by July. But it could be worse. Family is back to being healthy.

The ACA really screwed me over by crashing my decent insurance to that of a POS low level coverage at work. So high deductibles for visits and prescriptions. I had money set aside in a Section 125 plan but my wife ate that up with doctor visits for her newly diagnosed ulcer late 2017.

Fun times.

Anyway... party on Garth!

Sorry to hear that WM. Glad your family is getting back to health. Guns can be replaced, people can’t. You made the right choices man.

Dammit. I know how you feel. I've had to sell stuff before.

I've had some serious financial setbacks recently but my family will come thru. We are at the rationing stage now, but selling may one day become necessary.

Sorry for your misfortune. Fortunately it sounds like your situation is short term.

I think most all of us have been in the same spot and I'm sorry to hear that.

When I got hurt a work back in 2010, I had to sell a lot of my guns. I started selling the ones that I shot very little and knew that I had to let some of them go.

I've purchased more since then, part of the natural ups and downs of life. You'll bounce back. Just sucks in the meantime.

About 4 months ago, I had to have a minor emergency surgery because of a piece of chicken that I swallowed and somehow got hung up about 3/4 the way to my stomach.

I couldn't get it up, down, swallowing hard, gagging myself to puke it back up. Nothing worked. It wasn't going anywhere on its' own.

A trip to the ER, then about 10PM the on call operating room crew and almost $5000 later, ensures that I'll be paying that for a long time to come. Thankfully my medicare insurance was up to date, but like most policies, only cover a percentage of everything. The rest is all me.

Hospital bills are far more expensive than they were worth. ER doctor alone charged almost $1000 just to tell me that I had a piece of chicken in my esophagus.

Well no shit Sherlock. I knew that before I left the house. Somebody give this guy a sign.

Sorry to hear your news but glad the family is doing ok. In the end that's all that rally matters. You will bounce back. I was on the ACA last summer for a few months when I was laid off and it sucked. Not that my last work insurance was much better. We had a $6000 bill for my son to have his appendix removed. That was triple what it cost me have him. We set up a payment plan. Hang in there!

Sorry to hear about your troubles water monkey.

I look at it like this: a lot of my guns I bought because I thought they would be fun to shoot, but every one of them I bought with the idea that they are an investment, and something that would reliably gain value in time.

So with that in mind if I have to sell my investment because I need cash it's not like I'm selling my children.

I have a few guns with many many hours of work in them, and I would hate to part with those guns, but they are the ones which would actually make the most profit should I sell them, and so they would logically be the first to go.
