light attachment options for 590a1

I just bought a Olight Valkyrie to mount via picatinny rail to my magpul forend. I like the forend mount as its easy to hit the light on switch with my left index finger while maintaining full control. The forend mount however is set back and casts a barrel shadow which it a bit distracting. It also eliminates a portion of the light that is thrown. I have seen the dual rail adapter kit that screws in over the endcap like the one here . https://defendertactical.com/products/dual-rail-mossberg-590-series. Does anyone have any experience with these? It would move the light into a forward position and eliminate the barrel shadow but it would be awfully close to the business end of the barrel. I'm not a huge fan of the TL Racker or the other forends with built in lights. I prefer to have something removeable and lighter. I appreciate any feedback.

I have not used this specific defendertactical mount but GG&G makes an excellent mount for the 590 and other Mossberg shotguns. I use this specific one on my 590 and very pleased with the mounting location and ability to use the tail switch with my thumb. Thye have other offering on their site.

Like you, I absolutely hate all the forends with built in lights.

Big Jake, I run my lights as far forward as I can and still be able to touch the tail switch with my thumb. I run different lights and intensities depending if I'm using the gun predominately for hunting or when it sits the majority of the time inside for HD. On my hunting light the lense sets basically even with the muzzle. If you get any blowback on the lense you can put a very light coat of Vaseline on the lense to contain the buildup and makes easy cleaning. This forward mounting eliminate any shadowing.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

I use the Defender Tactical unit on my Maverick 88 12 gauge. Solid. Holds the streamlight in just the right spot.

Big Jake. GG&G makes great stuff. You can’t go wrong. I like the defender tactical stuff as well but the pic rail attachment they make (last time I checked) was a dual rail. I only need a left side rail. The dual rail only adds weight and snag potential.

Post pics once you get your configuration set. Also welcome to the forum. New members are a rarity these days.
