Mossberg Serial Number Data Base

Any help you folks could give me would be appreciated.
I'm pretty sure that model gun doesn't hold any collector value so you need not worry about "modifying" it. I'm pretty sure it is the same as a Mossberg 500 12ga. I'm not saying that is a "bad" thing because the real value lies in its functionality. :) This is why a 40yo gun can be valued the same as a brand new import.

What is that choke on the end? Do you have a better pic? We like pictures here... ;)

Regarding the furniture, I'm pretty sure one of the best ways to remove old finish from a checkered stock is to chemically strip it. Use an old toothbrush to scrub in the grooves. The dings and dents can be steamed out. Gootoob has many a video on wood preservation so don't go by what I say--consult a professional. Some folks like them "in the raw" after that with a coating of linseed oil or similar. Some will go high-tech and ceracoat them.

The receiver is likely aluminum so it can't be "re-blued" but it can be touched up with special products or paint. Whatever you use must be resistant to gun-cleaning solvents. I find a black Sharpie to be a good temporary fix. ;)

BTW, Welcome Aboard! :)

Hello, new to the group. Just got my 4th 500, for my Grandson to use. It is a 500AL, I was looking for an age on it, but didn't see any H36... serial number ranges. From what I can tell it is pre 1983, as it has a spring assembly on the magazine tube.

Looking at our data base yours look's like a 1979-1980.
Thank you for posting your numbers. I'll update our data base.

Oh I know it's a $200 shotgun brand new. I have no intentions of worrying about it's expense or losing value or anything like that. And yes it is 100% interchangeable with the Mossberg 500A according to multiple websites. The only thing I wanted to do was put a sling on it. At the top of the shell tube there's that threaded piece I don't know the technical name for it that screws into the top it also holds the barrel in place. There's no swivel stud on it. And there wasn't one on the wooden stock either. So what I did was I got a pretty heavy duty strap and absolutely zero tools needed now it has a sling. We're good to go. I like the novelty of it. The fact that it's the same age as me. Most shotguns that are old don't really have any substantial value unless they're manufactured by one hell of a reputable brand lightsaberetta or something I mean they've been around for what like 500 years? Mossberg has always been my go-to everything shotgun related. I grew up around the 500s it was my very first shotgun we've got a bunch of them.

I have never in my life had any kind of a failure whatsoever with a Mossberg shotgun not once. I'm weird like that though and it comes to the little things like I like to know when guns were manufactured and where. Some say it's OCD maybe it is. It's just how I am.

Oh yes photographs.. it is a vented choke. It says poly choke deluxe. And there's a rather ugly little piece of metal sticking out of it with a chunk of broken fiber optic in it. I suppose somebody likes bead sites and they made an attempt and it was an honest attempt. I think the choke is only on this because I'm guessing this was probably cut down at some point.
To the bottom of where the choke is attached to the barrel it's 18 in exactly. Most of the photographs I've seen of these older models were rather long originally. I don't know maybe somebody cut it down and put the choke on it to make it legal or maybe that's just how it came. Either way I like it. I don't really like the vented portion of it though but that's how it came that's how it goes if it ain't broke don't fix it.

For your consideration, my 12ga 50588 is stamped with S/N: U243XXX. The Mossberg box label indicates a "Packed On Date" of 05/29/12 which flushes with my purchase in February of 2013.

We are getting together a Mossberg serial number data base. I know there are a lot of members wanting to know the date of their Mossberg's without the hassle of calling Mossberg or Havlin.

We need member input for this to work. We are asking for the first few digits of you serial #, (A123xxx)and any info you have on the gun.(box label,,date bought)
We are trying to make this a quick reference chart for members who want to find the date of their Mossberg.
Thank you in advance for the help.
