New Mossberg 990 Aftershock

Plus tax, shipping, credit card fees and GB fees probably getting close to $500 - seems like a good amount but such is the used market nowadays - if someone wants an SBS host it isnt bad
 
Question for the group:

I have a Shockwave right now and love it with #1 shot. I've been toying with the idea of making my own mini-shells with #1 shot, since that doesn't appear to be an option in factory ammo.

Mossberg says the Aftershock won't run on mini-shells, but as far as I can tell that's due to (1) the shells can flip when they pop onto the loading gate, and (2) they minis don't have enough punch to cycle the action.

(1) can be easily solved with the opsol thing, if it'll fit in the Aftershock (and it very well may not).
(2) can be solved by loading mini-shells at the hotter end of safe loads.

Thoughts?

(1) I'd be inclined to say "no". As far as I know, the AS only has one extractor which may affect how it works with an "opsol" device. Maybe someone has figured it out and printed up something in 3D?
(2) Maybe it will be easier/more reliable to find a 2-3/4" load that works in a different shot size?

Typically there are three issues that must be solved regarding using mini shells in a semi auto gun.

Cycling Energy - Semi-auto shotguns rely on the energy from the fired shell to cycle the action (ejecting the spent shell and loading a fresh one). Minishells typically generate less recoil than standard shells, potentially leading to insufficient energy to complete the cycle.

Feed Ramp Geometry - The feed ramp guides the shell from the magazine into the chamber. Designed for longer shells, the ramp may not properly align with the shorter minishell, causing feeding malfunctions.

Ejection Timing - The ejection process is carefully timed based on the length of a standard shell. A minishell might be ejected too early or not at all, resulting in a stovepipe jam.

Given you have a Shockwave the logical upgrade would be going to a 590S Shockwave which has a newly designed lifter and adapter which lets you run minis as well as regular shells.

I have my doubts that a mini shell will reliably cycle the Aftershock action and if used for home defense or operationally I'm not sure I'd take that chance.
