I have the original MVP Scout rifle chambered in 7.62X51mm (or it may be in .308 Winchester). I will have to pull it out of the safe to see for sure which chambering.
Now, why I bought it. I had the choice between the Ruger Scout rifle and the Mossberg MVP scout. I chose Mossberg because
1. The original steel mag for the Mossberg was cheaper than the Ruger mags.
2. The MVP Scout allowed the use of M-14 (M1A) magazines as well as the .308 P-Mags. This was important because both of my M1As', my M1 Garand are chambered in 7.62X51mm. Obviously the Garand does not use an external magazine.
3. The Mossberg had a better recoil pad and an included picatinny rail.
4. The Mossberg was a bit (not much) cheaper than the Ruger.
I love my MVP Scout, it is accurate and I was able to replace the stock birdcage flash hider with a good muzzle brake which has reduced felt recoil to about nothing.
If there are any cons, it would be the weight. With no scope, and sling, the weight is good however with add-ons, the weight goes up. That especially with a fully loaded M-14 mag with 20 rounds.
