pictures that make you lol

At one time my only phone (touch tone) was in the kitchen, but I had a 15 foot cord that would reach anywhere in the kitchen and to my favorite chair in the living room. I was living large. The house was small, lol.

Those were good days.
I totally agree. Back then people were actually happy to see each other and have a real conversation about family and their lives. Plus if someone got hurt or sich others were always ready to help out with things.

Reference the black dial phone pictured above. Once we got telephone service back at the ranch we had one of these exact phones but service was a seven party lines and if you picked up you could hear any conversation that was going on. The cord was about 10 feet so it could basically go most places in our little house. If someone really needed to make a call they would simply ask the other parties if they could use the line for a few minutes. How things have changed!

We had a party line as well. To this day I remember that number, 53370. We were in a small city of about 15,000 residents.

My grandparents lived in a town of 180 folks. Everyone had wooden, seems like Oak or Walnut, crank phones and had to call the local switchboard to make any call, even to your neighbor. That was in the early 50s.

In high school, early 60s, I was allowed to use the phone for 5 minutes each evening. It seems my dad was always expecting the phone call that rarely materialized.

Young folks today would have no idea what area code 555-1212 would get them. Now we have Dick Tracy and Star Trek communicators and give it no thought.
