Polygonal or wavy rifling has more shallow channels. This allows the least amount of gas to escape around the bullet as its leaving the barrel. It also creates a greater bearing surface which will increase both velocity and accuracy. The rifiling pattern as profected by H&K in the 1960s and adopted by Glock in the 1970s.
