Question of the Month (February 2025) What's in a Name?

Ernst

Many of us give names to our favorite car, our dog or cat and even our girlfriend or spouse. How many of you give names to your favorite weapon?

What type of weapon do you have and what's its name?

Any story behind the name?

I have a few Glock clones I've "named", not out of affection, but to aptly describe. :)

The first P80 pistol I built I named "FirstBorn". FDE PF940C (G19-sized) frame with unknown brand slide and barrel. It sits in my briefcase with a mag full of HPs and goes "bang" when I need it to. It has a "Guard D" front sight--I wanted to try them out and they are OK but not for target shooting.

The second P80 is called "Essie" or SC for Sub-Compact. FDE PF940SC (G26-sized) frame and unknown brand slide and barrel. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet but it shoots accurately. The X-grips fit the 15rd mags nicely and take up the gap and give a pinkie hold.

GreyWolf is a Lone Wolf TWF1 frame (G17-sized), G22 slide with Aim Surp. 9mm conversion barrel. Trijicons from another slide aim really nice with U-notch and bright yellow dot. Gun also has a Glock Performance Trigger/LW3.5 connector. When I shoot steel with this gun, it is in the "Pistol Limited" division.

DaggerWolf is a Lone Wolf TWC1 frame (G19X-sized), PSA Dagger SW1 slide, Dagger comp, Holosun 507C, GPT/3.5 trigger. I had to install a NDZ 15lb RSA to tune the comp. When I shoot steel with this gun, it is in the "Pistol Open" division that allows optics and compensators.

WideLoad is a PSA Dagger Fullsize-S frame (G19X-sized) with Dagger slide, Holo 507C and a little trigger work. When I first put this gun together I had a rubber sleeve around the grip making the gun a real wide grip. I don't like the bulge at the back of the grip so started using DW.

When the Mossberg Shockwave first came out I bought one which quickly turned into my preferred bear and home defense weapon.

Appropriately named "Hell's Doorbell"

I sleep with guns close at hand, but I’ve never bothered to ask for their names. None have ever volunteered one.

The Ranger shotgun I call “the Ranger” but that’s as close as I let them get.

Otherwise it’s “the 9mm” or “the 45”.
