Refinishing 395KB Stock

Fixed the nasty cracked stock. Stripped the finish off and gave it a decent sanding. For the darker spots, would you sand it more or add a little more stripper to those spots? Anyone ever use a black sealing paint where the trigger housing, magazine feed and barrel beading is for protection and to contrast with the finish on the out side of the stock? Cracked stock first picture and current stage in comments. Thanks for any and all advice.

I have never sealed the trigger inlet etc but if you want to seal it why not just use the same stain as on the rest of the stock. I don't like to sand too much as you lose some of the character. I have used a darker stain on the stocks to not show some of the dark spots as bad (mostly where someone has tried repairs before).
