Yesterday was Memorial Day in American which honored and remembered all military veterans who died in service to our Republic. Yesterday and continuing today we also remember the veterans of the Vietnam era who served around the world 50 plus years ago. 2025 marks the 50th year since the end to the war.

Between 1955 and 1975, 58,193 men and women died as a result of the war and we still have a number missing and unaccounted for. I think most of us understand what the Vietnam Veterans endured upon their return and so many still suffer today.

They were truly the forgotten ones.

Hope you will take time to watch this video tribute to our Vietnam War veterans.

Back in the Vietnam era, during the draft, there were few women going through basic or advanced training and as stated above they were in separate units across the services.

The big push for women in the service back then was for nurses and a majority were volunteers who went through an abbreviated commissioning program and were immediately destine for Vietnam or forward deployed hospitals.

The advent of Huey medivac helos in Vietnam dictated forward deployed trama hospitals staffed with doctors and nurses. Nurses were call Angels from Heaven.

There are eight nurses on the Wall.

I don't remember any women beign assigned to forward deployed combat units.
