Is the Shockwave with the empty rail on it hard to aim with? I would kind of like to have one on mine for different sighting devices but would also like to be able to shoot and hit without and devices mounted.
pepi; please see response #888 page 45 in "Mossberg 590 Shock Wave" section. rv

Has this been turned into a SBS with the addition of the stabilizing brace and change up of pistol grip? It was my uninformed understanding it was something special about the birds head grip and pistol grip only receiver which allowed the use of the shorter barrel. I’m always up for a lesson of information that i’m not up to speed about, and that’s a lot of info!!

Long and short is no -

If the overall length is greater than 26" with the pistol brace it is still a "firearm" - it is not an SBS unless you attach a stock to the weapon. Same principle as an AR-15 pistol, it is a pistol with brace attached, vertical grips cannot be added on AR15 pistols unless the length is over 26" (otherwise it is an AOW with the addition of a vertical grip, needing a $5 stamp)

Remington sells a factory version of the Tac14 with the Mesa LEO adapter and SB brace, no worries.

ETA: That's 1.25" off the front (purchased a 2nd Shockwave and just finished doing the accessories/mods to make it identical to my first).
I now have one Shockwave in the bedroom 24/7 and the other in the safe for training/backup, I plan on rotating them every few months. :D

Also, replaced the 20-lumen MFT Torch w/a 300/140 lumen (CR123/AA) Streamlight RM-1:

Do you use the original magazine nut? How do you cut the forearm down 1.25”. Anything special I have to know before doing? Thanks

Rico had the best way to mount the heat shield IMO.
oldreb had a step by step how to mount a swivel base in the raptor base. I’m using a 1-1/4” sling. http://mossbergowners.com/forum/index.php?threads/shockwave-grip-push-button-swivel-base-project.18396/

On the heat shield, I moved the screws a little farther forward. I used #6-40 screws and got 5 to 5-1/2 threads
in the barrel. I used some BIG Channel Lock pliers to round off the sides of the shield. I left the ears on with the screws very tight until I drilled the holes, so it wouldn’t move. Then I cut the ears off .
I’m waiting on the XS Big Dot sight to come in so I can cut the hole in the top of the shield for it to stick out of.
I also trimmed down the wrap around ears on the receiver end by about 1/16” each so it would quit dragging on the magazine tube bracket.
The hardest part was laying out the screw hole location. I spent several hours getting it the way I wanted, due to the front of the shield being off set a little. Not bad for a days work. Thanks again guys.
