What's Your Wish For 2026

As I put in my yearly performance review at work. "Continue to be awesome."

In reality though, finish out the program that I travel for on the regular. Then decide if I want to stick around with my current company, since my traveling will drop to once a month or every other month.

* Edit: Oops. Read the title as what your plan for 2026. *

My wish for 2026 might be pie-in-the-sky, but I hope that at least some of the corrupt politicians and government hacks will actually be arrested, tried, convicted and jailed. Not the flunky underlings, but those who have so obviously stolen billions and committed treason. If the system won't hold them accountable, then perhaps there will be a very long trend of unfortunate accidents.

My only New Years resolution is to keep breathing.

I wish they'd increase Social Security, Deport Somalians, put the Clintons in prison, and hang Obama.

I’ll settle for the money.

Cadd, I'm with you on the bottomline line from social secutiy. We get a minimum annual raise, our medicare monthly payement goes up, and we wind up living on less.

The joys of living on a fixed income!

The uproar from certain people when Trump and Musk went after USAID was mind boggling. Billions sent to foreign countries for LGBTQ programs. Lawsuits filed to stop them. Billions more sent to states and NGOs ended up going to millions of people here illegally. Billions more Covid payments that were rat holed by states, counties, and cities now being found and used for pet projects.

AND YET…

My SS net increase this year is $3/month.

My wish is the news media would actually report these actions and ask tough questions of the ones responsible.

No one in the media or the government will ever tell the truth about the Social Security fund and how Congress and the various administrations "stole" money from the fund over the years using their term, "a loan", and never paid it back. If the original money, that we workers all paid, had been invested the fund today would be robust.

Now we also have younger generations whining about "supporting" us "old people" without them even acknowledging that most of us "old people" worked 40-60 years paying social security every paycheck.

Then we have the leadership touting the "great raises" that we are all getting whereas the truth is that some of us are actually getting less money per month after paying out mandated Medicare or like Meany getting a whole $3 raise per month.

And many folks today are living on social security alone or SS plus a fixed pension which doesn't go far given the price increase of groceries, fuel, electricity and other goods and services.

That $3 raise certainly goes a long way to offset the increase today's higher costs!

But our government contiues to give "taxpayer money" to 177 of the 193 recognized countries around the world!

All of the billions sent to that corrupt crap-hole Ukraine could have re-paved virtually every highway in America. Or at least half the bridges that have been neglected for decades. If all of the fraud and waste could be stopped or at least curtailed, income taxes could be reduced by 75%.

[all calculations done in my head...so no fact checking required. :)

Well I got my Social Security and it’s gone down by $14.70.

Evidently I’m getting penalized in some extra way now, for the fact that for six months back in 2018, when my wife quit working, I did not have drug coverage.

I don’t know why my drug coverage ended before my medical coverage ended but it had something to do with the school’s contracts where she was employed.

I had been carried under my wife’s insurance as a government employee, 30 years we were married. With six months uncovered I got docked %50 under Obamacare.

My prescription drug plan costs have gone up nearly every year. Since they go up on a percentage of the current amount they’re docking me a percentage on top of that 50% that the original docked me so that penalty keeps growing without limit, it seems.

Well they don’t actually pay a penny to me. Fortunately drug costs have been very low, because I’ve been quite healthy.

Anyhow that penalty this time ate up that $14.70 plus whatever increase I was supposed to have gotten. I don’t think it was expected to be much.

I thank God every day that I’m not in a desperate situation. My worst problem in life is that I have nine vehicles on the state roles and I am paying fees on all but the two of them which are declared not operational.

But I cannot imagine what it would be like if we still had house payments and car payments and medical payments and Lord knows what. We have been extremely lucky in many ways.

For 2026 I want to see a lot, if not all, of the bad people in this country die. Painfully. That will be the way this country gets saved! :)

I don’t remember if it was Judge Roy Bean or John Wayne but somebody said that there are people that just needed killin’.

There are a lot of those people now.

It seems it may have reached the point where such is not possible by conventional means.

Cadd, there is a lot of confusion out there concerning the cost of medicare and the supplementals for drug coverage.

But the bottom line is many of us will see a two fold increase in that the Medicare basic cost we pay goes up each year plus the supplemental cost which is based on your gross income reported level in 2024 for what your are now paying in 2026. In 2026, this total cost, depending on your reported income level, can be as high as just under $700 per person per month!

This is the cost being deducted from your social security month income. This year many of us have seen the social security increase offset by the Medicare monthly cost increase. Or like Meany, if I remember, he said he was getting a whole $3 increase.

And that doesn't include part D for drugs. Typically you need to buy a supplemental coverage for drugs.

Then some people are paying for comprehensive one stop plans offered by various organizations, insurance companies and hospitals. These are all the mail outs we get each year when they have open enrollment. Which in reality futher increase your costs.

And we have the folks who don't buy any coverage and just show up in the emergency room everytime they have a cold or runny nose. Someone pays for that cost!!!!
Guess who?

Maybe a Clint Eastwood character?
I see death of bad people as one solution to the Earth's overpopulation crisis. ALL crisis' on this planet are the result of too many people, period. Not all people are the gods' children--sorry if you don't agree... ;)

Probably OT but I've become ruthless as I've seasoned. The point I want to make about it is a current issue in our house.

We have an indoor/outdoor cat, Onyx, and he is not an issue. Healthy, neutered, indifferent, black with green eyes, about 5yo, Onyx poops outside although there is a litter box if he needs it but he hasn't lately. He comes inside to eat and sleep at night. Goes outside in the morning to kill things. We inherited Onyx from my son's ex-GF. He was confined to her bedroom at her parent's house and now he has the run of our 1 acre yard and the neighborhood. :) He was found as a kitten in the back of a 7-11 so has a feral streak in him.

My daughter (in her early 20s) wanted a kitten so I'm like "You take care of the food and other expenses and I don't want to EVER smell the litter box!" (which is in her room) and I haven't. The kitten, Juniper (Junie) is a white calico, about 3 months old and is due to be spayed later this month. You may remember a kitten has an enormous amount of energy and Zoomie (what I call her) has about double that. :) She runs around and bounces around like no tomorrow, at least when she isn't napping. :) She is a real sweetheart, quick to purr when cuddled. :) Onyx tolerates her and they play fight a lot until he doesn't want to anymore at which point he'll jump to a higher point. He could easily kill her if he wanted to. She can climb but can't quite jump high enough to pursue him--more below. :(

In the 2 months we've had her, I've noticed Zoomie increasingly has a gimpy hind leg and maybe both are. :( Occasionally she is bow-legged and runs with a bunny hop. She is quick to sit or lay down when not running 100mph across the house. I can feel a "crunching" occasionally in her back legs when holding her. Her diet is fine and she eats very well so plenty of calcium. Multiple online research sources indicate potential issues with her legs that need to be addressed, most likely surgically. It could be something like hip dysplasia, joint or bone malformation, etc. I do not believe the kitten will "grow out of it". :(

Here is where one must be ruthless: to my daughter I explain that the kitten needs to go to the vet to be checked out and possibly put down to ease her suffering. :( My wife thinks it is no big deal but my wife is stupid. Cats are very tolerant to pain and may not show it outwardly. My daughter nor I have $10000s or even $1000s to pay for an operation to fix a cat. She needs a car so any money she has saved MUST go towards that. Maybe I'm being fatalistic (realistic) and jumping the gun with my diagnosis/solutions but multiple sources agree an operation will be needed. Seeing a vet is the next step. The first "real" vet visit was like $150 for a "new patient"/shots/UTI (common w/cats). The spaying is done by some tax-exempt clinic so they don't do anything like the vet or Dr. Jeff does.

So have I been wrong to suggest to my daughter she may have to be ruthless with Zoomie? No operation could mean a lame cat in constant pain. Operations and vet bills may amount to $10,000 which she (we) doesn't have. And the operation may not be ultimately successful, then what? I don't think vets offer refunds. I know both of us will cry and putting down a pet is a tough decision to put on anyone. :(

What do you'all think?

Just an opinion given the circumstances, but I could not justify spending even $500 on an animal, especially since results are never guaranteed. The potential for even more suffering is there, so as difficult as it would be, I've always opted to have the animal put down. It just seems the most humane thing overall.

Have her understand the rise in bad genetics from uncontrolled inbreeding in controlled/localized populations.

Animal or human.

It happens far more often with fish BTW.
