I don’t remember if it was Judge Roy Bean or John Wayne but somebody said that there are people that just needed killin’.
There are a lot of those people now.
It seems it may have reached the point where such is not possible by conventional means.
Maybe a Clint Eastwood character?
I see death of bad people as one solution to the Earth's overpopulation crisis. ALL crisis' on this planet are the result of too many people, period. Not all people are the gods' children--sorry if you don't agree...
Probably OT but I've become
ruthless as I've seasoned. The point I want to make about it is a current issue in our house.
We have an indoor/outdoor cat, Onyx, and he is not an issue. Healthy, neutered, indifferent, black with green eyes, about 5yo, Onyx poops outside although there is a litter box if he needs it but he hasn't lately. He comes inside to eat and sleep at night. Goes outside in the morning to kill things. We inherited Onyx from my son's ex-GF. He was confined to her bedroom at her parent's house and now he has the run of our 1 acre yard and the neighborhood.

He was found as a kitten in the back of a 7-11 so has a feral streak in him.
My daughter
(in her early 20s) wanted a kitten so I'm like "You take care of the food and other expenses and I don't want to EVER smell the litter box!"
(which is in her room) and I haven't. The kitten, Juniper
(Junie) is a white calico, about 3 months old and is due to be spayed later this month. You may remember a kitten has an enormous amount of energy and Zoomie
(what I call her) has about double that.

She runs around and bounces around like no tomorrow, at least when she isn't napping.

She is a real sweetheart, quick to purr when cuddled.

Onyx tolerates her and they play fight a lot until he doesn't want to anymore at which point he'll jump to a higher point. He could easily kill her if he wanted to. She can climb but can't quite jump high enough to pursue him--more below.
In the 2 months we've had her, I've noticed Zoomie increasingly has a gimpy hind leg and maybe both are.

Occasionally she is bow-legged and runs with a bunny hop. She is quick to sit or lay down when not running 100mph across the house. I can feel a "crunching" occasionally in her back legs when holding her. Her diet is fine and she eats very well so plenty of calcium. Multiple online research sources indicate potential issues with her legs that need to be addressed, most likely surgically.

It could be something like hip dysplasia, joint or bone malformation, etc. I do not believe the kitten will "grow out of it".
Here is where one must be
ruthless: to my daughter I explain that the kitten
needs to go to the vet to be checked out and
possibly put down to ease her suffering.

My wife thinks it is no big deal but my wife is stupid.

Cats are very tolerant to pain and may not show it outwardly. My daughter nor I have $10000s or even $1000s to pay for an operation to fix a cat. She needs a car so any money she has saved MUST go towards that. Maybe I'm being fatalistic
(realistic) and jumping the gun with my diagnosis/solutions but multiple sources agree an operation will be needed. Seeing a vet is the next step. The first "real" vet visit was like $150 for a "new patient"/shots/UTI
(common w/cats). The spaying is done by some tax-exempt clinic so they don't do anything like the vet or
Dr. Jeff does.
So have I been wrong to suggest to my daughter she may have to be ruthless with Zoomie? No operation could mean a lame cat in constant pain. Operations and vet bills may amount to $10,000 which she (we) doesn't have. And the operation may not be ultimately successful, then what? I don't think vets offer refunds. I know both of us will cry and putting down a pet is a tough decision to put on anyone.
What do you'all think?
