Wd-40 specialist products

Would/do you use any of the wd40 specialist line of products on your mossys? Would the industrial strength degreaser be good for cleaning?

Never heard of "specialty", but wd40 is more of a penetrating oil than a lubricating oil.

As a corrosion preventative, one of our members, DIYguy proved it to work outstanding. And also did a lubricity test I believe. I'll attempt to link the post when I get to the computer, and find it

Thank you all for the replies. I am aware of the above test. DIYguy used WD-40 LTCI (Long Term Corrosion Inhibitor) and the "regular" WD-40 on his extensive tests. Another member of the forum has tested the WD-40 Dirt & Dust Resistant Dry Lube PTFE spray vs Break Free CLP. The WD40 specialist Line is that:

I was wondering if any of the degreasers and especially the industrial strength degreaser (http://www.wd40specialist.com/products/industrial_strength_degreaser/) would be any good for cleaning our firearms.

Truth be told, I've never found a need for degreaser. Always been able to wipe off any excess oil and buildup. Carbon may require a bit of solvent, and bristle brush.

My experience is that general gun solvents and Ed's Red, plus some copper fouling cleaning agents are all I have needed for cleaning just about any firearm on the planet (except of course no ammonia copper cutters on nickel plated guns). Heck, I don't even use CLP as a cleaner but I know a lot of folks do. Degreasers never really occurred to me.

Great question for a good discussion!

The idea of a degreaser used as a cleaner for my shotgun came to me when I realized how good a degreaser the regular wd-40 is.
This "regular" wd-40 is used as a gun cleaner by many people all over the world, it's probably not the best product for the job but it's quite cheap.
The wd-40 specialist industrial strength degreaser is a different product though and I'm not even sure if it's safe to use it on my shotgun. I think we must find someone brave enough to test it lol!

Like attracts like, meaning petroleum based products, will help remove other petroleum based products. I personally see no need to remove all of the oil from a firearm, if your just going to put more back on. I've no doubt the, industrial degreaser will work fine. Probably not harmful to plastics in limited exposure. My only question is Why?

My friend dieselmudder (nice nick by the way) to answer your question of why use the degreaser... well since it's on the self and it's available it made me wonder and hypothesize... no other particular reason (ok maybe the price and availability also, since some bore cleaners are expensive and others not readily available).
Anyway I think I'm going to use some of this industrial strength degreaser to clean my Mossy (especially the barrel) and inform you about the results :)

Ahhh, that makes sense. I was under the presumption you were going to be shopping for it. Use what you have.
