Second Amendment March was founded in 2009 for the purpose of organizing a nationwide pro-Second Amendment Rally in Washington, D.C. The original event took place in 2010. Most of our board of directors hail from Michigan. In light of recent events, we felt it was time to organize a Michigan pro-Second Amendment event in Lansing. We hope that you can join us. Even if you cannot, please spread the word so that we can remind our legislators of the political clout we carry, and that we take "shall not be infringed" seriously!

What: A peaceful gathering to demonstrate the political strength of Michigan's legal gun owners and Second Amendment advocates

When: Wednesday, March 20th, 2013 starting at 9:30 a.m.

Where: Starts at the corner of Michigan and Pennsylvania in Lansing (or if you prefer, just go directly to the Capitol Building)

The Details:

Michigan's Second Amendment March will be held on Wednesday, March 20 at Michigan's Capitol. The march will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a sidewalk procession from the corner of Michigan and Pennsylvania to the Capitol. From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. people will meet with their state representatives. Musical entertainment and pro-gun speakers will take the stage from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. From 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. people will meet with their state senators. The Michigan Legislature is in session that day. We'll be showing them the political strength of Michigan's legal gun owners. The march is being organized by Skip Coryell's Second Amendment March and jointly promoted and funded by the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners, Michigan Open Carry, Michigan Gun Owners and Michigan Students for Concealed Carry.

I got there a little late after finding a decent parking spot. Most of the meters are 90 minutes only and the parking structures are GFZ's :x

Many state legislators were available til 11:00 to anyone that wanted to talk to them. There were several people walking around directing people on giving people directions to offices, etc. if they wished to do so.

Doug Giles gave a great speech and got everyone fired up. There were a couple slow points here and there. A few of the State legislators that were speaking were delayed but they had a band there and a tend set up with a few vendors and local orgs.

I saw a anti banners being displayed while we were driving around looking for a parking spt but they petered out quickly, I guess they couldn't take the cold. LOL I only saw one heckler that piped up with a bunch or loud anti-gun, pro-Obama stuff. A few told him to STFU and I heard a few people trying to civilly debate him. Things went south when he slapped a camera out of someone hand as they attempted to take his pic. MSP stepped in and escorted him away. Not sure what happened after that but I didn't see or hear him again. I respect anyone’s right to protest even if I don't agree but destruction of property was crossing a line. I think he was just trying to get one of us to cross that line and give his cause some ammunition. I think I may have part of the guys comments on tape as I was recordng the keynote speech while this took place. and the guy was only a few yards away from me.

It was 85 on this day last year....not quite as warm this year. I always think there should be more people attending these but I think the turnout was good. I recognize many of the same faces from the other two I attended this year and a lot of new ones.

Overall it was well put on, very organized and I think we are being heard at least by those that are willing to listen.

Not entirely representative of the overall turnout. I got there a tad bit late and many had moved to different areas. There was a tent for vendors and gun orgs to display their wares. I reupped my Michigan Gun Owners membership while I was there. ;-D

One of my favorites of the day.

Loved seeing all the flags. Althought it seemd that wherever I chose to stand, someone with a big flag or sign always seemed to end up in front of me. At a particilarly windy point in the day someone walking through the crowd with a very large flag on a relativly short pole managed to "flag whip" several people.

Lots of women open carrying at the event. Everything from revolvers to decked out AR's

My clash with celebrity. Not sure if anyone is familiar with Jan Morgan. Very nice woman and totaly dedicated to protecting the constitution. (Unfortunately this does not get me any closer than my 5 degree's of separation from Kevin Bacon.  )
