Tryong To Get Both a Red Dot and Scope on a 715T

I am trying to get my feet wet with some inexpensive optics to tool around with while punching paper. Trying to keep it inexpensive while at the same time getting some experience working with them.

I have a Mossberg 715T, Right now I have one of these with a 1/2" riser for it.

Based on what I have read here and some other research, I bought one of these as well:

I would guess I will need a 45 degree mount/offset so I can put my red dot to the side of the new scope I want to buy so I have a closer range red dot and a further range scope. With that in mind, what do I need to do? Specifically:

1. I am assuming I can buy two of these for the scope:

2. For the 45 degree, what length do I get based on the red dot that I already have? It is 2.7" at the base. I was looking at this to mount the red dot and was told that I need this vs. a plain 45 degree so that it stays far enough from the scope to not interefere, however it is only 1.25"long so how can I get my red dot on it?:

Do I mount that about the same distance from my eye as the scope? I assume where it is most comfortable? Also, when I shoot using that, do I cock the gun 45 degrees or just keep it straight and then use it to aim with? It is a Weaver mount, I know that. Yeah, don't laugh, newbie question I know. I think with the 1"{ risers I can get this under the scope to mount my red dot.

Bottom line, how do I make this all work with my Mossberg? I appreciate all of the help you can provide to my newness, thanks! I'm just trying to tinker around, not take the wings off of a gnat!

Well, you are on one track that may work. The BSA is a little larger to act as a secondary optic. You will make some room with your scope risers. You can save a few bucks on a UTG or other 45degree mount. WILL the BSA fit both rails on that?!

A BIG variable is shooting position. Will the scope and red dot be where you want them when you are shooting?! Try it - you already have most of the kit. If it fits physically then you will/may see changes that you want/need to make.

I'd look for a smaller red dot personally but not until you have ruled out what you already have. There are many on the market - here's a TRUGLO, probably more than you want to spend but you'll get the idea and a smaller unit can be mounted (given amount of adjustment available) on top of a scope (or laterally) - if that works for you shooting position/physically. lower the scope (possibly) look for rings with rails or try one of these:

post pics as you proceed - good luck getting it sorted out!

As I think about it, do I really need both on it? New thought, if I use the scope only on the Mossberg, that has an objective from 5 yards to infinity. That's suitable to shoot at 25, 50 and 100yards, correct? If so, I'm set, right?

The red dot, why not just put that on my Ruger MKIII 22/45? It will fit and work fine for it, right? I think that may be a better solution unless someone can find flaws in my logic. I just didn't want the red dot to go to waste, however putting it on my Ruger and the scope on the rifle, seems logical. I'm just using the Mossberg to shoot paper at the range, not tactical quick acquisition.

Thoughts?
