Bought my first mossberg 590A1

the shotgun is back together! it's been a long 8 weeks but overall i'm happy now. I think if i knew what i know now back when i started this project i probably would have gone a diffrent route. but Now i have a one of a kind (expensive as heck) shotgun. Here is a few closeup pictures of the recent barrel work and heat shield installed on my shotgun. The heat shield had to be cut to fit around the rear sight.

sorry about the spoon... it's all i had in my fit of excitement!

Dude, I know it was a long time, but you are correct! It truly is a one of a kind 590 and it looks great! I especially like the custom cut heatshield!

You did well!!!

Man that really looks sweet bsipes. Looks like fine workmanship on both the barrel and the heat shield. Glad you got this thing all worked out.

My last complaint would be that when they installed the heat shield they forgot to tighten the front sight back. Luckily i found it loose by looking at the pictures(you can see the allen screw backed out in the second to last picture) and snugged it up until i can get it to the range to sight it in. I suppose if it had gone missing i would have had an excuse to get the night sights...

bsipes, yesterday I was flying in a commercial aircraft over California and I heard my pilot announce that if we all looked out our windows we could see heavily armed USAF F-22 Raptors off our port and starboard wingtip, and that we were being forced to re-route and leave California airspace. Immediately.

Seems that Hugh Heffner feels really threatened by you and believes his empire is in peril when you are anywhere near Cali. And that's just because of you! I bet he doesn't even know about your fine-azzed 590A1 or else he might have ordered you shot down.

You know.

just to be sure..,.....

if I hear you were in CA. from AL. and didn't come by OR, I'll be pissed

Oh and your scatter gun is looking tight Bsipes30. Hope it shoots well !

Thanks Oli! i hope it shoots as good as it looks! Turned out a little more tacti-cool than i had imagined but not bad i suppose.

and Nitesite... the only reason those planes were there was to keep you away from stealing all the beautiful beach ladies before i get there! I warned them that you were coming.

Screw everyone and what they think, your money, your gun and I bet it shoos as good as any “properly” set up shotgun.
It comes down to practicing and getting comfy, if you can do that you will be just as proficient as you would with anything……people told Jimmy Hendrix he stung his guitar backwards, people in the UK drive on the wrong side of the road and the wrong side of the car and they seem to make it work…….sorry, just tired of all the internet specialists who think a gun don’t work unless it is set up like they think is best, losers who would rather type than shoot, one of their favorite words is tacticool

Oh i know Nite!! lol and Oli, i did get exactly what i wanted so i'm happy. I'm just trying to make it to the range. We have 3 days till we leave and tonight we have dance class(don't poke fun it's for the wedding and it's going to look awesome!) and packing stuff for a 10 day trip and wednesday we have the kids so the only day i think i'd be able to sneak away would be tuesday night. I've picked up quite a bit of different birdshot, some military 00 buck shot, some remington 00 buckshot, I even found some crazy rounds that are slugs with like 3 00 buckshot behind it. sounded like a good time to me. The only thing i haven't picked up yet is some federal flight control buckshot.

Well as of August 16th i finally got to shoot my shotgun that i bought in Feb! 6 months!! goodness! Well i was very happy, I mainly shot it just to get it heated up.. I put 25 rounds of bird shot, 10 rounds of military 00 buck, 5 more rounds of 00buck that was in a green and yellow box(can't think of the name right now). and i also put 5 rounds of the federal flight control 00buck through it. I wasn't paterning today, just shooting to adjust to the recoil. I need to get a recoil pad... Even with the ported barrel it still has quite the kick and all the loads i shot were failry mild.

Any suggestions.. I need an m-4 style recoil pad for the adjustable stock. I know that limbsaver makes one thatslips on around the stock list price is about 45 bucks and ATI makes one that you have to drill 2 holes to mount it that costs about 21 dollars. Anyone think one choice is better than the other? Both seem to be made out of the same material.

Well here is one target that i did with the federal flight control 00buck... i'm not sure of the distances but it was at an indoor range. (i'm generally a low shooter with pistol sights gotta work on that)

Target #1(top left) was at a fairly close distance, target #2(top right) was probably a about 1/3 of the way down the range, target #3(middle) was about 2/3 of the way down the range, and the bottom row was at the full distance.

Added the ATI butpad and the grip. another 56 bucks with free shipping from ATI! Hopefully it wont be as punishing... lol i'm such a wuss...

The butpad was pretty straight forward... drill 2 holes all the way through and one 1/8 of an inch.

The grip needed an extra washer to tighten up.
