Good morning

Still warm and sunny here, temps in the lo 80s. I tuned up my bicycle and rode early.

The day didn't end well though.

Our 7 year old dog had to be put down today, as she couldn’t eat or get up and down. It hit her suddenly, overnight.

She had huge cancer in the the kidney.

It's 18C (65F) today....We're experiencing unseasonably warm and DRY conditions. We haven't had any meaningful rainfall since early July and we're about 90% less than the normal average (about 16mm compared to an average 165mm for July thru mid Oct). Traditionally, the southwest of BC can get very warm in the summer months but is typically moderate temps the rest of the year and lots of rainfall except for July thru September. Winter can come and go with no significant snowfall and just above freezing temps. Other years it can be like one would expect Canada to be in the winter, but it's usually short lived this close to the coast.

By my count, there are 10 wildfires burning within 100kms or less of our cabin today. There are over 60 wildfires burning throughout BC as of yesterday or the day the before. This is highly unusual. There are still fires burning in the far north of the province bordering the Yukon and Northwest Territories....that is absolutely unheard of for this time of year. The temp is 11C near the Yukon border today....wild. Should typically be a high of 4C down well into negative numbers by this time of year.

Should be interesting to see how this affects hunting this year.

I want to see how it affects the global climate as more and more particulates go into the air. I think we’re going to have a more vigorous and radical weather pattern in the future. This will make the need for more flood control dams and lots of water reclamation projects to protect against drought.

Good morning guys…
I got up too early.

There are too many things on the to-do list that will not happen soon.

I am going to take care of the fish and irrigate the trees. I will clean up the garage and start setting up another welding project. Maybe take Judy shopping.

Take care guys…

Good morning everyone. Cadd, sorry to hear about your dog. It is a sad day when we lose them.

26 here this morning. Fortunately we are warming back up.

Have yourselves a great day.

Thank you Meanie.

I didn’t get too much cleaning up done today. I did work on some wheels, and I’m attempting to design a rigid girder fork for one of my bicycles.

It needs to look as skinny and antique as possible, and I think I have a plan that will work.

I lost my 2 mm hex key a couple days ago. I had to go spend $12 for a new set of hex keys today, so that it would turn up, but it may not happen until I lose this 2 mm hex key. That’s the law of diminishing tools. You will always find one less.

Anyhow, this is the bike that I want to build a girder for.

The thing is, I have another bicycle almost completed that is clogging up my welding shop. I need to put the thing together and get it out of there before I start any new welding.

This fork may actually be my first silicone brazing project with the TIG. I have some very high tech chromemoly tapered wall tubing to booger up. This tubing is very thin, and I do not want to blow through it.

I’m going to have to practice up a bit on my TIG brazing first. Fortunately I didn’t pay much for this tubing, because it came as a used bicycle. This one from the 90s.

Good morning Mossberg Owners.
The chopping has begun.

I have been feeling a little funky the past couple days, but this morning was much better. Then my daughter calls me to tell me that she tested positive for Covid.

Maybe that’s why I’ve been a little bit more tired.

But the doctor recently put me on some medication for my blood pressure, which is not that high, but it was too high for him. We’ll see how I do with it. Whatever the damn stuff is (losartan ?) it tastes like spoiled gasoline and Penicillin.

Anyhow it hasn’t stopped me from riding my bike every morning. I went for nearly 1 hour today & did about 9 miles. Little of it was cruising. I’m bombing around through our neighborhood doing donuts in the cul-de-sacs (culs-de-sac?) and hopping over all the gutters.
I still have a broken turn signal on my motorcycle I need to fix, but I think I’m gonna go slap some duck tape on it and go for a ride.

The weather is just beautiful and sunny and warm and calm, and it is the perfect day for it.

You all have a nice one.

Good morning everyone. We had 2 nights that were a bit chilly, but now back to lows in the high 40s and low 50s. I have a follow up appointment with my cardiologist's PA this morning. Just routine to, nothing unusual. That is after my exercise class. Lol. I am trying to do my part.

Y'all have a great day.

Good morning you guys. Yesterday was busy with lots of running around and shopping. I got to ride the motorcycle to the bicycle shop and the aquarium shop. It ran really well.

I have avoided riding it because it had a broken turn signal but finally I just said screw it and took them off. I can stick my arm out when it’s needed.
Anyhow I am back on the bike. I also did about 9 miles on the bicycle yesterday.

Unfortunately here in California the tree huggers have made forest management such an expensive and difficult proposition that nobody did it. The result was that things got neglected and thousands of houses burned down and now the air is nasty again.

All these knee-jerk reactionaries get so religious running the government, and they are screwing things up because their main motivation is cheerleading for the cause.

OK that’s my rant for the day. You guys will probably see me doing it again tomorrow

The enviro fanatics only focus on specific results. They never look at the high level view of how all the pieces fit together.

They just keep disbling huge chunks of the machine then are shocked when it doesn't churn out the result they want. It's taken years of trial end error to fine tune these things and they just jump in with a wrecking ball and no idea how the machine works.

They are all too ready to throw things out that simply need patching and repair.

Good morning Mossberg Owners.

Today I need to clean up my outdoor work area some more so I can get started welding on my car.

First I’ll go take Judy on the bicycle for a ride.

We have been into Indian summer here with cool nights and sunny days going up to 90. I think it’s time for another fishing trip.

1950's version of an E-Mail

Long ago and far away, in a land that time forgot,
Before the days of Dylan , or the dawn of Camelot.
There lived a race of innocents, and they were you and me

For Ike was in the White House in that land where we were born,
Where navels were for oranges, and Peyton Place was porn.

We longed for love and romance, and waited for our Prince,
Eddie Fisher married Liz, and no one's seen him since.

We danced to 'Little Darlin,' and sang to 'Stagger Lee'
And cried for Buddy Holly in the Land That Made Me, Me.

Only girls wore earrings then, and 3 was one too many,
And only boys wore flat-top cuts, except for Jean McKinney.

And only in our wildest dreams did we expect to see
A boy named George with Lipstick, in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We fell for Frankie Avalon, Annette was oh, so nice,
And when they made a movie, they never made it twice..

We didn't have a Star Trek Five, or Psycho Two and Three,
Or Rocky-Rambo Twenty in the Land That Made Me, Me.

Miss Kitty had a heart of gold, and Chester had a limp,
And Reagan was a Democrat whose co-star was a chimp.

We had a Mr. Wizard, but not a Mr. T,
And Oprah couldn't talk yet, in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We had our share of heroes, we never thought they'd go,
At least not Bobby Darin, or Marilyn Monroe.
For youth was still eternal, and life was yet to be,
And Elvis was forever in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We'd never seen the rock band that was Grateful to be Dead,
And Airplanes weren't named Jefferson , and Zeppelins were not Led.

And Beatles lived in gardens then, and Monkees lived in trees,
Madonna was Mary in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We'd never heard of microwaves, or telephones in cars,
And babies might be bottle-fed, but they were not grown in jars.

And pumping iron got wrinkles out, and 'gay' meant fancy-free,
And dorms were never co-Ed in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We hadn't seen enough of jets to talk about the lag,
And microchips were what was left at the bottom of the bag.

And hardware was a box of nails, and bytes came from a flea,
And rocket ships were fiction in the Land That Made Me, Me.

T-Birds came with portholes, and side shows came with freaks,
And bathing suits came big enough to cover both your cheeks.

And Coke came just in bottles, and skirts below the knee,
And Castro came to power near the Land That Made Me, Me.

We had no Crest with Fluoride, we had no Hill Street Blues,
We had no patterned pantyhose or Lipton herbal tea
Or prime-time ads for those dysfunctions in the Land That Made Me, Me.

There were no golden arches, no Perrier to chill,
And fish were not called Wanda, and cats were not called Bill

And middle-aged was 35 and old was forty-three,
And ancient were our parents in the Land That Made Me, Me.

But all things have a season, or so we've heard them say,
And now instead of Maybelline we swear by Retin-A.
They send us invitations to join AARP,
We've come a long way, baby, from the Land That Made Me, Me.

So now we face a brave new world in slightly larger jeans,
And wonder why they're using smaller print in magazines.
And we tell our children's children of the way it used to be,
Long ago and far away in the Land That Made Me, Me.

If you didn't grow up in the fifties,
You missed the greatest time in history,
Hope you enjoyed this read as much as I did.

Good morning guys. I had the chance to tag along with my youngest son deer hunting yesterday. We both had a great time despite that we didn't get a thing.

But we made some good memories. And was able to see one of the most gorgeous sunrises of all time.

Good morning, Mossies. I get the wrong item occasionally shipped to me, but why can't it happen like THIS?

HOUSTON – A couple in Houston recently discovered a number of fully automatic M16s inside gun storage cases they bought from an online government surplus store.\
The couple has a business where they buy surplus items and resell them on eBay, which is why they purchased the 108 storage cases.
When the person opened the case, he discovered 12 fully-automatic M16s inside. The weapons are designed specifically for military use only.

If I could only get so lucky.

And we're supposed to trust the government.

The same government that lost GAVE AWAY billions of dollars worth of machineguns and heavy equipment and aircraft to the taliban, yet they come after some guy in Texas who legally bought them at a surplus sale.

Something is seriously wrong with this picture.

Good morning MOers. 47 degrees and rain. We had an inch of rain yesterday, then a break for about 9 hours, then started again about 2 am. The forecast says we could have 3-4 inches this week. It has been a good soaker so far and is much needed.

You all have a great day.

Good morning to all of yous. 41 and clear this morning. Fall is in full swing now. The trees are beautiful and temps very nice. Lows in the 40s and high 65-70.

I laid some sod yesterday, so more rain would be appreciated, lol. We have a 40% chance Friday. I have my fingers crossed.

Ya'll have a great day.

Good morning Mossberg Owners. No such rain here I’m afraid. It’s predicted to be dry through the week. Indian summer is over and we have gone from 90° temperatures to 70° temperatures in just two days.

I have been helping Judy put up Halloween, and working on some bicycle parts.

I have a few sets of these raked triple trees and I’m converting one set to be un-raked, by turning a bottom clamp into a top clamp.
