I would suggest a real cool trip...
You get an area map...
You head out the East end of Vegas...

From Las Vegas take I-15 south to I-215.
Exit I-215 East to I-515.
Exit I-515 South to Boulder City.
I-515 turns into US-93.
Continue on US-93 through Boulder City until you reach
Hoover Dam.

Take I-15 South to the I-215 East exit (to Henderson).
Exit and take I-215 East.
I-215 turns into Lake Mead Blvd.
Take Lake Mead Blvd through Henderson, past the turnoff to Lake Las Vegas, to Hwy 147.
Turn left onto Hwy 147 which will take you to
Lake Mead Recreation Area...which includes the Valley of Fire in the Mojave Desert.
**Make sure you stop at Mouse's Tank** and see the old petroglyphs

You will see some of the most awesome and sceanic areas of the Southwest...
My wife and I did this whole thing on a Harley Fatboy after she flew in from Gitmo on her birthday December 12th...after it just had snowed in the high desert...words do not come close to covering it !! ( We've done this same trip three times...in six years...and we'll probably do it again next year )
